Petrolheads will be able to race around the streets of Adelaide for the first time at an exclusive track day ahead of this year’s VALO Adelaide 500.

A track day for high-performance cars held during race week will give enthusiasts a once-in-a-lifetime chance to tackle the parklands circuit shortly before Supercars drivers contest the final race of their championship.

Automotive events company Driving Solutions will host the track day on Wednesday November 30.

Driving Solutions director James Stewart said the event represents a “bucket list” opportunity for South Australian motorsport fans.

“It’s just great to bring enthusiasts to the centre of Adelaide to experience their car on the circuit,” he said.

“Normally it’s a 50km/h zone, but they will be able to see that it really feels like at speed in a safe, controlled environment.”

The track day is restricted to road registered cars, not heavily modified racing machines.

Even so, exotic machines will still be capable of reaching speeds in excess of 250km/h on the 3.219 kilometre circuit.

Drivers will need to have plenty of experience at other circuits such as The Bend to be given a chance to take on the track.

The track day is likely to attract a variety of cars, including high-performance exotics.

The event follows a similar initiative at the 2022 Australian Grand Prix that saw lucky enthusiasts have a chance to take on Melbourne’s Albert Park Circuit.

Participants will get to push their cars to the limit over the course of eight 20 minute sessions supervised by expert drivers including Supercars race winner Andre Heimgartner and Porsche Carrera Cup champion Craig Baird.

Younger Supercars drivers who have not raced on the demanding street circuit have also expressed an interest in driving in the event.

The catch is that the event is not cheap at $3500 – roughly 10 times the cost of a regular track day.
