As a Fox League presenter, Lara Pitt lives and breathes rugby league. Little wonder then that the game also permeates her downtime, whether it’s kicking a footy around the park with the kids, or enjoying a great NSW country town football carnival weekend.

Early riser or Saturday sleep-in?

Early riser for Pancake Saturday which is a tradition my husband got started for our three boys a few years ago. It usually sets the tone for a high energy day ahead! Really looking forward to a sleep-in in about a decade.

Best place to go on a Saturday with the kids?

Parsley Bay. Hands down the best playground right on the harbour. You can go for a bush walk, have a swim, a picnic and grab an ice cream or coffee from the kiosk. Can’t beat it!

Favourite park?

The No.1 requirement is anywhere with a BIG slide – the bigger, the better! Newmarket Playground in Randwick is the current favourite with a steel tunnel slide, that must set some sort of record in Sydney. It is MASSIVE! The kids never tire of the climb to get up to the top and slide down, on repeat.

Best local coffee?

Cafe Bondi – we love the warm, friendly vibe from the owners, and their coffee is excellent, as is the bacon’n’egg wrap or on a healthier day the breakfast bowl is huge and delicious.

Best spot for date night?

Raw Bar in Bondi – can’t beat their sashimi and cold beers.

Favourite takeaway?

Little L Chicken Burgers are regularly delivered to the Pitt house during NRL season. Their chilli chicken burgers are the perfect Friday footy feast.

Where and when do you exercise?

Empower Personal Training, twice a week. Emily Bowie has kept me fit for over a decade, through three pregnancies and beyond.

Best hidden treasure in NSW?

Having only discovered Mudgee in the last few years (while covering the annual pre-season Charity Shield match between St George Illawarra and the Rabbitohs) it’s a region still new to me.

Fans flock to town in late February, so the pubs, bars and restaurants are abuzz. Highly recommend taking the fold-out chairs and Esky to the game at Glen Willow Stadium, then grab the bus back to town to the Oriental Hotel for pizza and plenty of banter.

The Mudgee Race club holds a big race day on the Sunday and then, if you can make a long weekend of it, there are plenty of award-winning wineries to visit.

Favourite place to holiday in NSW?

My mum was born and bred in Burrawang in the Southern Highlands and as a family we spent most weekends down there riding horses and being outdoors. We love taking the kids back there now to visit the Moss Vale agricultural show in March or Tulip Time in September.

What’s your idea of the perfect Saturday?

It’s got to be busy and energy sapping. Pack up the kids, footies, boots, kicking tees, helmets, scooters, etc. Grab takeaway coffee for a trip to the park then get home in time to watch Super Saturday on Fox League finished off with a family barbecue for dinner.
