Beau Ryan’s favourite spots in Cronulla for food, entertainment
Former league star Beau Ryan loves raising his family in Cronulla so don’t be surprised if you see the TV personality grabbing his favourite coffee at a local cafe or at the park with his kids.
Sydney Weekend
Don't miss out on the headlines from Sydney Weekend. Followed categories will be added to My News.
The multi-talented Beau Ryan dedicates weekends to having fun with his family, wife Kara and children Remi, 9, and Jesse, 4. And the former rugby league star, turned actor, TV personality and newly appointed Carnival Cruise Line ambassador knows the Shire inside out so if you need a Saturday morning coffee, tell Val and Lisa that Beau sent you.
Early riser or Saturday sleep-in?
It depends on what sort of week I’ve had but I’ll usually wake up around 6.30am in my little man’s bed after staying up past bedtime watching a movie together.
Best place to go with the kids?
I recently partnered with Carnival Cruise Line to help Aussies rediscover their fun side. We launched a new quiz that tells you what your Fun Type is. Almost my whole family turned out to be Action Packers so it’s safe to say we love an adventure.
The Royal National Park near Audley Weir is perfect for that because there are a few fire trails, a nice little spot to fish and if the water is clear, a great spot to swim. I like it clear because I want to make sure there are no bull sharks.
Favourite park?
There is a great park down the south end of Cronulla at Salmon Haul which has a great tyre swing, slide and a rotating wheel that I literally have to drag my kids off.
Local coffee haunt?
The cafe down the road from me – Shelly Park Shop. I’m down there every morning to get an almond flat white for my wife and a double shot for me. That first coffee of the day has to be memorable and Val and Lisa are yet to let us down.
Best spot for date night?
Alphabet Street in Cronulla. We usually go early because we are so excited. We’ll talk about how good it is to be kid-free but end up looking at videos of our kids by the time dessert arrives.
Favourite takeaway?
Johnny Hu Chinese Restaurant in Cronulla. My family is addicted to dumplings.
Where and when do you exercise?
I’m training at S1 Training in Caringbah because I love the circuit workouts and community vibe. If the weather is good after training I’ll dive in the ocean. Man, it’s good for the soul.
Best hidden treasure in NSW?
Barrack Point, Warilla. My family lives down there and it is heaven. There’s a spot where the lake meets the sea and my kids will swim in it all day on any tide. Don’t tell anyone about it.
Favourite place to holiday in NSW?
We love Yamba. It’s a coastal town with great, relaxed people. We stay in the caravan park up there and just immerse ourselves in the area.
What’s your idea of the perfect Saturday?
A big sleep-in before heading down to the cafe for a strong coffee with Kara. Then we’d go home to get the kids and head down to Cronulla Beach with the dog.
We’d have a barbecue and hang in the pool all afternoon. Then an early dinner and hop into bed to watch the last season of Yellowstone.
