DESPITE the intense public scrutiny over her engagement to Justin Bieber, 21-year-old model Hailey Baldwin admits to being “beyond excited” about their upcoming nuptials.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding to Justin Bieber [Baldwin, 21, and the 24-year-old pop star got engaged in July]. You are obviously used to being in the public eye, but how has the increased scrutiny and interest in your personal life these past two months affected you?

Thank you! I’m beyond excited. I don’t think it’s affected me really. I have learnt to just try my best to ignore the negativity at this time so that I can enjoy this season of my life.

Your father is actor Stephen Baldwin and your uncle is Alec Baldwin, so you grew up with famous faces all around you. Is there anyone you would completely gush over if you met them?

I don’t think so to be honest. I have met so many people over the years just being in this industry and even though I’m a huge fan of several people, I try to look at them as normal human beings. Because of course at the end of the day they are.

Coming from a strong acting family, is this something you would like to do in the future?

If the right thing came along I would totally do it. But it’s not my focus right now.

You are the face of the Fall 2018 Tommy Hilfiger Women’s Icons capsule collection, which celebrates icons of tomorrow in the worlds of fashion, art, entertainment and music. What do you think the fashion of the future will look like?

I think the future will have more diversity and inclusiveness. The industry is already shifting — but I think it can do even more. There’s always room for positive change, and I would love to see that being enforced more going forward.

Do you have a favourite piece in the Icons capsule collection?

I think my favourite is the cosy fisherman’s sweater that I designed. I hope people wear the heck out of it. But my favourite Tommy Hilfiger item currently sitting in my closet is a pair of vintage Tommy jeans.

How do you feel about being called an “icon of tomorrow”, as well as a role model to young girls?

It is an honour and so flattering. The fact that young girls look up to me truly blows my mind. I just hope I can continue to have something of substance to offer them.

Who are your fashion icons?

There have been so many! Of course, Tommy [Hilfiger] is a huge one for me. I’m not just saying that because I have had the privilege of working with him, but because my style is so deeply influenced by that ’90s era. I think Tommy was such a staple of the ’90s, and he has brought that into his collections — even now. That is why I wanted to be involved in this campaign — I love what he and his brand represent. It’s in line with who I am; I always want to be aligned with brands that make sense for me personally.

Your cousin Ireland Baldwin [daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger] is also a model. Did you sound her out before you started in the industry?

We’ve definitely asked each other for advice and vented to each other over the years. It’s nice to have someone who understands [what the industry is like].

Do you have a hidden talent or party trick that no-one knows about?

Well, I did... but I think everyone knows about it now. It is opening beer bottles with my teeth [laughs].

The Women’s Icons capsule collection is available in Tommy Hilfiger stores from Wednesday, and on their new ecommerce site from September 19.
