Bachelorette Elly: ‘I haven’t spoken to Matt since that night’

Ahead of an unprecedented season of The Bachelorette that sees not one but two women at the helm, sisters Elly and Becky Miles reveal why jealousy was never an issue and whether or not they have found love.

Elly and Becky Miles are beaming – and with good reason. The sisters, who in an Australian-first are set to star as the titular Bachelorettes on Network 10’s popular dating show, have both found love. “We’re very happy with our fellas,” Becky, 30, tells Stellar.

“Each!” Elly, 25, pipes in with a laugh.

It is the fairytale ending fans of The Bachelor and Bachelorette franchise are always so keen to hear, and it’s especially good news for those who watched Elly, a fan favourite on Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor last year who many thought he would choose in the end.

Rather than express disappointment, Elly is reflective of her time on the show. “I haven’t spoken to Matt since that night. We weren’t meant to be together. I accepted that and that’s it,” she says.

When both sisters were approached to take part in The Bachelorette, they were surprised. “I don’t know [how it happened],” Becky says. “I think they wanted to do something different and saw some of our travel videos and thought…”

“…‘We like the dynamic of these two together’,” Elly finishes, in typical sisterly fashion. “Something wholesome because we’re probably about as Aussie as it gets. Two country girls.”

While both were worried about the scrutiny on their private lives, they knew the positives outweighed the negatives. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something with my sister and potentially find love,” Becky says. “And I was like, why not do it?”

Luckily, due to their very different taste in men, there were no green-eyed monsters. “We didn’t encounter any trouble like that at all,” Elly says. “We clicked with who we clicked with, and they were completely different.”

The sisters may be “best mates” now, but they admit to growing close only when Elly hit her teen years and their life stages became similar. “I couldn’t imagine having done this without Becky,” Elly says with a smile, as she looks to the sister sitting beside her.

“I said to her halfway through the experience, ‘I didn’t think we could get any closer, but we have’. If anything, it’s only strengthened our bond.”

The Bachelorette premieres on Wednesday, October 7 at 7.30pm on Network 10.
