Sunrise host grills Scott Morrison over China’s Solomon Islands deal

What is your guilty pleasure in life?

Food. But not just anything. I’m a really fussy eater but when I like something, I really get stuck into it. Italian, spicy Asian food, Indian, absolutely anything sweet. Just no oysters or slimy stuff, thanks. And I often don’t finish everything on my plate.

What was your first casual job and what are your memories of it?

Working as a shop assistant at the local corner store in Bunbury. I stacked the shelves and the fridges, served the customers, sliced the cold meat and my favourite – made up the bags of mixed lollies (I may or may not have eaten most of the profits).

What would you tell your 10-year-old self today?

You’ll live in the city like you always dreamed. And you’ll kind of fit in. You will always have that small town feeling in your heart, but you need to stop worrying about everything.

Would you have plastic surgery? Botox?

I think never say never. I haven’t had anything yet. I’ve been a bit scared, to be honest. But as I get older, I’m open to ideas.

When was the last time you cried?

A month ago, when I got some sad news. I cry all the time. I think I’m a pretty emotional person. Most of the time, I’m happy.

Have you ever had a crush on someone famous or a fictional character?

No. I’ve never really understood that “leave pass” thing or being that attracted to someone who’s unattainable.

If you weren’t a journalist, what would you be doing now for a career?

I would love to have gone into the building industry. My dad had a building company and real estate agency. I spent many weekends driving around with him checking on building sites. I’m fascinated by that industry and would love to have learnt about it.

If you could transport yourself anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?

Greece. On the deck of one of those extremely fancy apartments overlooking the water with a plunge pool.

What is the ugliest part of the human body and why?

Feet. Well, specifically my feet. I’ve had a bunion operation. But, even before that, I’ve never liked them.

What makes you anxious?

Fast cars and loud music in cars. I break out in a sweat when a cab goes fast because I think it’s going to ram the back of another car. I think I’ve developed a real fear of it. And I hate being stuck in a car with loud music. I think because I have people talking in my ear all day at work, I crave silence.
