Tully Smyth reveals why she had never been on date at 26

Reality TV star Tully Smyth found herself single for the first time in her life at age 26 and went on a steep dating learning curve.

Dating Advice: Red flags to look out for on a first date

When Big Brother star Tully Smyth broke up with Anthony ‘Drew’ Drew, it was a rude awakening for many reasons.

The couple famously hooked up during the 2013 series of the reality show despite Tully having a girlfriend.

Drew and Tully continued dating for a few months once they left the show, but announced they ended things in January 2014.

Not only was Drew and Tully’s split the first either had experienced in the spotlight, but it also marked the first time Tully had found herself single at age 26.

In her late twenties the self-confessed “serial monogamist” had never been on a date, let alone dated anyone without being in a serious relationship.

“I didn’t know how to date, I’d never been on a date,” the now-34-year-old told news.com.au podcast Kinda Sorta Dating.

“All my past relationships had been friends of mine already and we’d just kind of ended up dating.”

Tully spent nearly eight years single before finally meeting her current boyfriend this year on dating app Hinge.

During that time Tully spent some time on celebrity dating app Raya, telling podcast host Jana Hocking she had managed to link up with some A-listers on it.

“I met many a celebrity on Raya,” she said. “You come across all kinds of people, some huge names.”

She said the most exciting part of the app was seeing which celebrities had matched with her.

“When you see a massive name, for your ego, you want to swipe right just to see if you get a match,” she said.

“There’s a lot of people that you just want to see if they think you’re hot but more often than not you never say anything to them … I remember I saw Draco Malfoy (actor Tom Felton) on there.”

Tully also revealed she had matched with NBA star Kevin Durant and singer Flume, but said the app wasn’t as amazing as it was cracked up to be.

“They don’t have good chat,” she said.

“Don’t think for one second that because they’re famous or a millionaire or live in LA or fly in private jets that they’ve got more banter than Tom from Northcote, cause trust me, they don’t.”
