The League promises to match ambitious, driven singles and is heading to Sydney soon

IT’S the thinking woman’s Tinder. A dating app for a superior class of folk is heading to Sydney. Your photos are vetted before you can join and there’s also a limit on users. So how can you make The League cut?

FROM dating trends to tales of love, horror dates to expert tips, Sarah Swain explores single life in Sydney.

THE NEW DATING APP, ‘THE LEAGUE’

FORGET terrible selfies, fake profiles, unemployed losers, messages which never get read or people browsing your profile just for a laugh.

A new dating app restricted to educated and ambitious singles is due to hit Sydney.

The League — which already boasts weddings and babies in the US and is also available in London — will launch later this year or early next.

And founder, American business school graduate Amanda Bradford, promises it’ll allow us to track down all the “ambitious, driven, smart, passionate people,” in the city.

“This is a community for people that are attracted to intelligence, ambition, drive and passion, and for people that want a relationship that is a partnership of equals,” she said.

“The women in The League are as successful if not more so, than the men, and are looking to meet a partner who values and encourages that.”

And, when in NYC last month, I gave it a go.

The app is verified not only via your Facebook but through your LinkedIn — meaning there’s no lying about being an international hedge fund boss who went to Sydney Uni when you really work at 7/11.

Well, you could I guess, but you’d have to go to an awful lot of effort.

Using the career site will also block you from seeing any work mates or contacts — something Bradford wanted.

Once the computers assess through where you went to uni, your jobs, where you live and how many potential matches you’d have, staff give your photos the once over too.

And while photos are vetted, Bradford said it’s not just based on looks.

Then, if you make the cut you’re sent five matches a day to “heart” or ”cross”.

And like most other apps, if the feeling’s mutual, you can chat.

From my West Village temporary home, most of the guys I was sent were six foot, chiselled and Ivy League educated.

Some weren’t that good looking — and surprisingly some did actually have mirror selfies which is something I think the site should ban immediately.

Most also had fancy sounding jobs at financial firms, mayor’s offices and big name computer companies,

I clicked the heart for about 75 per cent, way higher than on Happn or Bumble where about one in 20 get swiped right, if they’re lucky.

I also tried a few ‘power moves’ too, which does not involve doing some Kung fu in a bar, but putting yourself ahead of the competition.

The paid-for tokens mean you’ll go to the top of the list of women sent to that guy.

The League also runs events — some offered to me in New York included adult summer camps. Debauched much?

The League promises to offer high standards. And women like to dress up and point at the screen when it is on a phone.

Anyway, I did chat to a few blokes online — though just like on other apps some of them I contacted didn’t reply — something you can actually be kicked off for.

I didn’t manage to go on any dates though but I was only there two weeks.

And I’m excited to try it in Sydney.

The one problem?

It is enough to make a bogan cry.
It is enough to make a bogan cry.

Only 2000 folk will be chosen to use it and some hopefuls in other cities have blasted the app for not getting in.

So how can you make the “draft” as they call it?

“The two biggest things users can do to increase their chances of getting into our Sydney founding class is make sure they have six clear photos and send referrals,” said Bradford.

“Upload some high res photos, take off those sunglasses, and Google some memes to make ‘about mes’ sound witty.

“Users who make at least one referral move up the waitlist five times faster. It pays to be connected.”
