Mum's rogue reaction to toddler's 'grating' screams on bus

"Just give it to them and so we can have peace and quiet!"

Controversial things I do brining up my nearly 14 year old

A woman has vented online about a recent bus journey, which was punctuated by the 'grating' screams of two toddlers whose mother didn't seem to care.

"Second long bus journey this weekend, and yet again, the whole bus is having to put up with loud, noisy, whining kids," she wrote in her post.

She called the screams 'constant' and irritating and said they showed no signs of subsiding with "hours to go."

One child was allegedly jumping up and down in his chair, kicking the seat in front of him, while the other was shouting "mummy" nonstop.

"Give the rest of us some peace and quiet"

Their mum "just didn't seem bothered" by the commotion, but the other passengers were sharing looks, rolling their eyes and loudly sighing.

"They were spoiling the journey for everyone," she huffed.

"Just give them tablets and headphones and the rest of us some peace and quiet!

"I have nothing against well-behaved children, but I'd much rather parents parent and teach their children consideration for others."

"How very dare they be childlike while travelling on public transport!"

Readers weighed in on the woman's controversial suggestion that the mum resort to screens to settle her kids.

"Well done for the parents not giving their children screens and headphones when out and about. There is plenty of time for that when they are in their teens. Suck it up, OP and let children be children," said one.

Another sarcastically added: "Totally agree. Children should be seen and not heard! How very dare they be childlike while travelling on public transport!"

Then a third said that their main issue on public transport was actually adults: "Meh. My beef on train journeys is people talking loudly on their phones (adults here, not kids/teens even, proper fully grown adults talking loudly about absolute crap that could definitely wait). I loathe it, so I take headphones. Kids, I'm not bothered about because they're kids, and kids are going to find it hard to be quiet and still for ages."

And a fourth claimed: "In fact, it’s shoving kids in front of screens that makes this sort of thing worse."

Many people also suggested the woman get some headphones. However, she replied by saying that she was actually wearing them during the bus journey.

Some people did back the OP up, with one saying: "If your children are being noisy and disturbing everyone around them, which is pretty normal behaviour for many kids, parents should engage the kids through snacks, books, games, drawing, films, or whatever works. Letting the kids disturb lots of people in a crowded setting is not great.

"There is no harm in a good movie or a game on the iPad for a couple of hours."

And this person agreed, writing: "It seems an increasingly noticeable proportion of idiots are raising antisocial little sh*ts."
