Wiggles light-up headband recalled over choking risk

A light-up Wiggles toy sold by the popular children’s band for almost a decade has been urgently recalled for a second time.

A light-up children’s headband fashioned in the style of former Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins has been urgently recalled for a second time.

The headband was sold at the popular children’s band’s live performance, as well as at their website and in retailers, for almost nine years.

It has since been recalled by the consumer watchdog over concerns the button batteries may not be adequately secured in the casing.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said the batteries may be accessible to young people as a result.

The yellow head band also did not include warnings about the dangers associated with the small, coin-style batteries to children.

“There is a risk of choking, serious injury or death if young children gain access to the batteries and swallow them or place them inside their body,” it said.

“Consumers may be unaware that the product contains button batteries.”

A second recall notice was issued on Thursday following a August 24 warning over the problematic children’s toy.

The recall now covered any headbands sold from November 1, 2015 to March, 2024, a period of almost nine years.

Any parent who purchased the headband were urged to stop using it immediately and to keep it out of reach of children.

The ACCC said they should contact CA Australia to arrange a return and a full refund.
