A boy was killed after being trapped under a lift at a Sydney school for children with disabilities.

Staff and students are mourning the loss of a 10-year-old boy who was killed in a horrific lift accident in a Sydney school. 

Tragedy struck at St Lucy’s School - for Students with Disabilities when emergency services were called following reports of a trapped child. 

Officers from the Ku-ring-gai Police Area Command arrived at the Wahroonga school at 2pm to find the 10yo boy trapped underneath a lift.

“Beautiful” student tragically trapped under lift

Despite the best attempts from firefighters to rescue the boy, he was unable to be saved, tragically dying at the scene. 

The school for disabled children has since released a statement regarding the devastating death and confirmed the school premises will remain closed until further notice. 

“St Lucy’s School is very sad to confirm the tragic death of one of our students this afternoon,” read the statement, per NCA Newswire.

The school confirmed it was “cooperating with investigating police” and was unable to make any further comments on the incident. 

“We ask for privacy and space for our staff and families to grieve at this difficult time as we remember our beautiful student,” it added.

Police continue investigation into boy’s death

Police have set up a crime scene and continue the recovery operation for the 10yo boy’s body. 

It’s understood the student’s parents have been notified, as a NSW Police spokesperson confirmed a report will be prepared for the coroner. 

According to its website, St Lucy’s School offers education to students with “mild to severe intellectual disability, autism and sensory impairments.” 

St Lucy’s is an independent Catholic Special School that started as a primary school before expanding into secondary education in 2019.
