My 3yo swore there were monsters in her bedroom. We found something scarier

"I would honestly rather have monsters in the wall than this."

From nightmares to reality mum discovers 50,000 bees in wall!

As parents, it's our job to make our children feel safe- especially at bedtime. We assure them that monsters aren't real and the boogeyman isn't coming out of the closet.

That's precisely what mum Ashley told her daughter recently, when she was complaining about monsters in her room. However, the nightmare became a reality when they discovered bees in the bedroom wall. 50,000 of them.

“What nightmares are made of,” the mum captioned her TikTok post, which has since attracted over nine million views.

"It lit up like Christmas"

The mum of three told People the family had recently watched Monster's Inc., and she figured her daughter was playing around when she talked about monsters in her room.

"We even gave her a bottle of water and said it was monster spray so that she could spray away any of the monsters at night.

"She was just freaking out. She had to stay in our room and kept saying there were monsters. We thought, in part, that she was experiencing a little regression since I had just had a baby in February and was pregnant and tired before that."

Earlier, the parents had noticed a few bees coming in and out of the attic and had been assured by a few pest controllers there were no bees in the walls. They were wrong.

Eventually, a beekeeper brought in a thermal camera to scan the walls of the three-year-old's bedroom.

"It lit up like Christmas," Ashley said.

But the beekeeper—aka "monster catcher"—according to Ashley's daughter—wasn't done. He was back for several more visits, which Ashley documented, given the buzz the initial video caused.

“Day 1: Beekeeper removed 20,000 bees and 100+ lbs [45kg] of honeycomb from the wall. He found the queen and is able to safely take the hive to a new home.”

On day 2, the bee expert jettisoned another 20,000 of the interlopers and sealed off the wall to prevent anyone from getting stung.

While they finally managed to evict the swarm, the infestation left their house sticky with honey.

When followers asked Ashley how she didn’t notice such a sprawling insect metropolis being erected under her roof, she replied: “It only takes a couple of bees and a swarm that you might not be able to see to become a colony that’s 50,000 bees.”

"It's like a crime scene"

TikTok users swarmed the comments section to share their thoughts on this horrifying experience.

"I would honestly rather have monsters in the wall than to have 50k bees," one person wrote.

Another sympathised with her, writing, “Omg, this happened to me in an apartment years ago. Management didn’t believe me for months until honey started coming through the wall! They would be so loud at night that I thought I was crazy!”

"This is literally my worst nightmare," a third added.

Ashley, the mum of three under four, shared an update in a recent clip. She said her family is working on returning to “normalcy” as they clean up their home following the bees' aftermath.

"Our newborn is in our room, and my oldest has been sleeping in her sister's room, which has been great because she feels she's protecting her sister from the monsters. Not only do we not have our oldest's room, but it's like a crime scene."

She continues, "We have to run in and out, or we'll get stung. We can't leave the door open, and we're so scared of the kids getting stung, especially with a newborn, because since they're so young, we don't know if they have allergies."

Insurance won't cover this family even though the 100-year-old farmhouse needs $30,000 worth of repairs.
