"You're going to starve them."

Mum's treat yourself moment—and it was glorious!

The internet has slammed a mum over the meal she offered to her twin babies

"So chokey. Are you serious?"

“It’s dinner time for the boys and they’ve got steak and broccoli,” she begins the video, holding up their plates.

“Obviously, the steak is to chew on. They can suck all of the juices out of it and all the goodness.”

The steak is cut into thick strips and cooked well done. .

Brittany reveals she’s prepared the meal to baby led weaning standards (a method that ditches traditional purees and encourages babies to feed themselves).

Both of the boys sit side by side tucking into their meal while Brittany offers praise and encouragement.

However, her comment section didn’t share the same appetite.

“I don’t even give my two year old big pieces like that,” one commenter said.

“Steak is so chokey. Are you serious?” another criticised.

“So how is that steak going to fill them up? You're going to starve them if you don’t feed them baby food,” a third argued.

The mum encouraged many of the commenters to research baby led weaning before passing harsh judgement.

“Christ. Food under 1 years old is for development, motor skills and fun. They still have five feeds of milk a day, I will be dropping to four feeds once I'm confident. They are taking in enough food,” the mother defended.

"Leave her alone"

Fortunately, she had support despite the critical comment section.

“People in these comments have no idea how to do baby led weaning and it shows. This meal is absolutely fine,” one person reassured her.

A second person echoed: “People on here seriously need to look up and research BABY LED WEANING. They’re not your kids are they? Leave her alone”

Baby Center Australia states that baby led weaning is suitable for babies after six months, just like traditional weaning.

“To reduce the risk of choking, babies should always sit up to eat and should never be left alone when eating,” baby center advises.

“It’s important to only offer soft foods to your baby. You should avoid hard foods, such as chunks of raw apple or carrot, dried fruit such as sultanas, and round coin-shaped foods.”

They recommend offering a selection of nutritious finger foods that are chip-shaped or have a natural handle.

Breastmilk and formula feeds should continue until 12 months of age.
