Mum discovers spine-chilling truth about her favourite childhood toy

"It was all a lie... I'm so traumatised."

Aussie woman in Bali adopts stray kittens

A mum has taken to the Facebook group "Tea Time" to share a spine-chilling discovery from her childhood.

She began the post by describing a cherished childhood toy, a stuffed cat, which she said "looked super realistic but was fake."

"The cat was curled up and had a hard bottom kinda like a doorstop almost. I remember I would cuddle this cat/rub my face on it, kiss it on the head."

It was originally a gift from her grandma and had been her mum's childhood toy. She said it also held a lot of sentimental value to her as she was allergic to real cats.

But little did she know, this fond memory would be shattered years later when she went to pass it on to her own child

"I've been carrying around a stuffed dead kitten"

"Well anyway, about a month or two ago I was sorting though some of my childhood toys and I found the cat I was showing my partner and he was shocked and horrified and showed me that it was a real cat and has been taxidermied!!!" she exclaimed.

"My whole life, I thought it was just a realistic toy, but no, I've been carrying around a stuffed dead kitten."

She later found out that it was made by a man for her mum in the '60s and she had always thought it was fake too.

While the discovery left her shaken, she said she wasn’t "traumatised enough to throw it away at least" and she also "doesn’t have the heart to chuck it."

The shocking revelation

Her revelation left the group completely shocked, with one person saying, "I’d be mortified that I used to play with that."

"That’s insane, what the actual f**k?" another asked.

"My jaw just dropped! Was it just a random kitten or a family pet?" someone else questioned.

The OP responded: "A random kitten, I'm assuming! Definitely wasn't my mum's family cat or anything and I don't think it was his either because my mum always said he made them!!"

She then shared the photos after commenters begged her too and... it's definitely a real cat.

"Oh that’s definitely real," someone confirmed.

"Yep, looks like real fur," another added.

"Sorry to say this, but it looks like roadkill OMG," wrote a third.
