Mum bursts into tears during gender reveal for her fourth child

"I was hoping for a boy after having three wonderful daughters. Gender disappointment is real," the mum writes.

Mum shares her 'relatable' reaction to fourth gender reveal

Having a healthy, happy baby is all that every parent can hope for.

But let's be real – secretly hoping for a particular gender is totally normal!

One mum who gets it is Kendra Evens aka mumfluencer @dailydoseofmygirlgang.

After her fourth gender reveal turned out to be another girl, she posted the real, raw moment that she found out on TikTok.

Now, thousands are jumping in with their support and championing her very important message: that gender disappointment is real and not something to be judged.

"Are you kidding me? Why do we have to get a girl?"

The gender reveal was Halloween-themed and included all-black outfits and smoke pouring out from a Jack-O-Lantern which would change colour to reveal the gender of the baby.

The family of five all stand in a row and wait for the smoke to slowly change colour. When it becomes obvious that it's pink, one of Kendra's daughters yells, "We get a girl?"

Kendra then bursts into tears, bends over and covers her face with her hands.

Confused and also upset, Kendra's eldest daughter says, "Are you kidding me? What? Why do we have to get a girl?"

A voice from behind the camera yells, "Girl gang all day!" as a nod to Kendra's' TikTok handle.

As her kids react to the news of a new sister, Kendra continues to cry as her husband comforts her and rubs her back.

She then posts a happy and adorable photo montage of her now family of six.

She captioned the post: "Gender disappointment is real so don't judge us, little did we know our Nellie would complete our family and we couldn't be happier to be raising our four daughters! Couldn't imagine life without that sweet girl."

"Just because somebody is disappointed, doesn't mean a baby is not loved"

Reflecting on the moment, Kendra shared with People, "When I found out I was having my fourth and final child, I was hoping for a boy after having three wonderful daughters. But as a mother, I'll love and cherish my child no matter their gender."

"On top of that, all three of my pregnancies with my daughters were all the same, but with this last pregnancy everything was so different so in my head, I swore it was a boy."

"Our feelings are valid as humans and gender disappointment should be more normalised. You don't know anyone's situation or feelings, and just because somebody is initially disappointed doesn't mean a baby is not loved."

"It's the initial shock. The people that get it, get it"

Many TikTok users expressed solidarity with Evens by sharing their own experiences of gender disappointment.

"Gender disappointment is so real and it doesn’t mean we don’t love our kids," one user emphasised.

Another wrote, "As a mum of four boys, I feel you on the gender disappointment. I cried for days after we found out our last babe was another boy. Your feelings are valid."

Then someone else assured, "Yes it’s the initial shock!! Like I obviously love all my daughters. The people that get it get it."

And someone else pointed out this cruel irony, "Gender disappointment is completely real! And simultaneously you’re feeling extreme guilt for feeling that way about your baby. Makes it doubly hard."

Then others tried to make light of the situation.

"Even the oldest daughter is like, "NOT ANOTHER ONE" hahahah," one user wrote.

"Trust me, four boys would have been a nightmare," concluded someone else.
