A mum has sparked controversy after revealing the real reason why she decided to clean her filthy car.
Brittany, a mum-of-three from Oklahoma, is currently 26 weeks pregnant and preparing for her kids to return to school and decided it was finally time to give her van a deep clean.
But after seeing the “insane” state of the car, many wondered how she could have let it get so bad.

“Oh my gosh, did you see that mum's car…”
The Oklahoma woman began by explaining what sparked her need to clean the car.
“I spilled the Dr Pepper in my car, and I knew that was the last straw,” she said in the clip.

She lifted the cup holder in the centre of the car, revealing a disgusting and sticky mess underneath. “I need to clean this out,” she said.
The inside of her van was a total mess, with empty food packages strewn across the seats, shoes, hair brushes, wrappers, and a tub of pretzels piled on top of each other.
“This is all the crap I found everywhere in my car,” she explained.

After removing the rubbish from the floor of her van, Brittany vacuumed up the crumbs, food and dirt from the seats.
“I even took the car seats out and did underneath,” she said. “[I] do not remember the last time I cleaned out my car.”
And while it’s been a while since she last did a deep clean of her van, it seems there’s a very specific reason why she decided to take on the task, and it wasn’t really because of her spilled soft drink.
“School is starting soon,” she admitted. “And I'm gonna be dropping off my oldest, and I don't want to open the door and teachers be like 'Oh my gosh, did you see that mum's car’.”
“So, instead of showing one of two teachers, I’m showing the entire internet all these crumbs inside my car.”
While it’s safe to assume a lot of the mess was caused by her three children, Brittany confessed they weren’t the only culprits, vacuuming up a “whole thing of pringles” she “accidentally dumped out”.
Living in Oklahoma, Brittany said it was “too hot” outside to finish the job, meaning she’d have to shampoo the carpets another time, but was happy with her overall job.
“If your car is dirty go clean it, it'll feel so much better when it's done,” she encouraged others.

“I thought my car was bad…”
Online, people were flabbergasted by the state of the mum’s car.
“THAT was the last straw?” someone asked, in shock. “Hey, so this is actually insane!” another said.
“Is no one scared of cockroaches bugs etc getting in their car?” asked a third.
“I thought my car was bad…” another comment read. “I thought my car was dirty but it’s cleaner than the finished product,” another agreed.
“I'm saving this and will show it to my husband the next time he tells me my car is dirty,” someone laughed. “It can always get worse, I guess.”
It quickly devolved into mum shaming, causing others to back Brittany up.
“Everyone who is like ‘this is insane’ has no idea how it is to have a life that doesn’t allow you much free time other than essentials,” a person said.
“Mummy of five while currently pregnant, and if y’all think this is bad, y’all would hate to see my car,” a mum chimed in.
