How to make a gingerbread house ornament

What’s not to love about gingerbread houses and cookies?

Today we're making an ornamental gingerbread house that can be hung on the tree.

So heat up the hot glue, thaw out Mariah Carey and crank up the Bublé. We’re going to craft the Christmas out of this activity.

What you need

Paddle pop sticks

Beads

Pipe cleaners

Small balsa wood circles

Cardstock: brown, sparkly silver

Cord, ribbon or twine

Pencil Acrylic pens

Hot glue gun

Scissors Ruler

Activity

Paddle pop house construction

Place 8 paddle pop sticks together vertically, side by side. Glue a stick diagonally across all the sticks.

Place 6 sticks together horizontally, side by side. Glue a stick vertically and centrally on top. Rule diagonal lines from bottom corners toward the centre top of vertical sticks. Cut along the ruled lines.

Glue triangle spine stick to back of rectangular stick section. Glue stick off cuts as backing to the house for additional support.

Exterior paint job

Using a brown acrylic pen colour in the front of the paddle pop stick house.

Hand crafted decorations

Twist 2 contrasting pipe cleaners together. Cut the twisted piece into smaller sections. Bend the small twisted pipe cleaners into the shape of hooked candy canes.

Colour in small balsa wood circles with swirls, to look like lollipops and hard lollies.

Cut out a brown cardstock gingerbread person, and then add acrylic lines to look like decorative icing. Cut out a sparkly silver cardstock arch door.

Gluing decorations

Glue the silver door near the base of the house. Glue beads to the triangular outline of the roof. Glue beads to the outline of the door. Glue the lollies, gingerbread person and candy canes to any part of the house exterior.

Looped cord

Fold a length of cord and knot the ends together. Glue the knotted loop to the back of the roof.
