Woman’s incredibly tidy pantry looks great. But that’s not the best part

VANESSA Sanders pantry looks picture-perfect but that’s not the most important part of the impressive transformation.

EVER since Vanessa Sanders cleaned out and reorganised her now picture-perfect pantry, she will often walk past and stop, just to admire her handiwork.

It took the mum from NSW an entire day and a half and $300 to swap her messy, crap-filled cupboard with neatly stacked, clearly named bottles, jars and containers. But boy, was it worth it.

“When I was cleaning it out I even found screwdrivers and Lego — lots of Lego,” the 30-year-old laughed.

“Kmart mums have so many inspiring ideas and I have always been so envious of their organisational skills, so I decided to do it.

“And it works perfectly — it has been a couple of weeks and no rubbish has crept back in.”

She even went so far as saying that her new, perfectly organised pantry has changed her life — and more importantly, saved her family time, and money, while reigniting her love for the kitchen.

“As a full-time working family it saves us so much time — no more rummaging through cans and packets to find ingredients,” said Sanders, who works as an admin supervisor.

“My son can now find his afternoon snacks and also packs his own lunch box.

“It has also saved us money, as now I know exactly what I have and I am not buying doubles and triples of things because I can’t find them — and my husband’s OCD is satisfied.”

Pasta is in glass containers, spices in labelled jars, chips, baking goods, cans and spreads in their own pull out wicker boxes — everything is clearly visible, easily accessible and has its place. Cookbooks on the top, toaster, kettle, bowls and mixers down below — her organisation is magazine-worthy inspiration to get sorting.

But, it wasn’t always so perfect. Ms Sanders said in the past, her pantry housed bills, toys — even tools — no matter how hard she tried to keep on top of it.

“I had lost my love for cooking,” she said. “Now I can’t wait to cook and experiment again, as everything is so easy to find.

“To people who want to do this but don’t know where to start, just pull absolutely everything out of your pantry and sort it.”

She said to make piles of ‘keeping’ and ‘chucking’.

“And you have to be ruthless,” she said. “Separate what you need in jars, baskets or containers and write down a list of the sizes and quantities you require. Then go shopping.

“If you don’t organise this first, you will spend unnecessary money. And shop around for prices.”

Ms Sanders got all of her supplies from Kmart, The Reject Shop, Bunnings and Hot Dollar.

“It was a pain to be driving to multiple shops, but it saved me over $150,” she said.
