Home and Away Bella Nixon: Courtney Miller shares her secret Bohemian life

Quirky Home And Away starlet Courtney Miller doesn’t talk the Bohemian jive but she lives it every day.

Ray Meagher, AKA Alf Stewart, reveals his career secrets

Fictional coastal town Summer Bay may be ‘home’ for actor Courtney Miller, but the chance to spread her artistic wings is always exciting. Her first art exhibition wraps up at Sydney’s Balmain Space on Saturday June 26, and Courtney is excited about what’s to come.

“Home And Away is my home for a little while longer. My plans for after my time on the show would be to dabble in some theatre, immerse myself in some acting classes and to ride the wave of the unknown.,” she said.

In the meantime, she is cultivating her art collection in her apartment in Sydney’s Glebe.

“It’s also full of my own art, not because I’m obsessed with my own art but simply because I can’t afford the real deal as of yet. I can’t wait to fill my home with the work of artists I love.”

The apartment may be small, but the outlook more than makes up for any shortcomings.

“I’ve moved around a bit in the past two years on a quest to find my perfect spot. I’ve always loved Glebe. It is such a vibrant suburb, full of character and beautiful houses. I have a magnificent walk down by the water in full view of our glorious Anzac Bridge. I feel very safe here, it’s close to my folks and my second home – the Channel 7 building,” says Courtney, who says her apartment brings her “joy”.

“Adding your own decor and furniture is the key for it to feel homely.”

AT HOME WITH COURTNEY MILLER

Who: Actor Courtney Miller.

Where: Unit in the inner-city.

Favourite thing: Shakespeare pretty much wrote an entirely new language and dealt with topics that are seen in today’s political climate such as, gender division, gender fluidity and patriarchy. Also, one Christmas my folks got me this guitar and my obsession with it lasted a whole week. It’s now a memento, you can’t be good at everything.

Inspiration: Bohemian.

Home is: Absolutely a feeling.

COURTNEY MILLER’s FAVOURITE THINGS

Nikon camera

My old house mate had a beautiful camera like this one which inspired me to get mine.

I bought it for $15 at a second-hand store – such a bargain.

VW Beetle painting

I painted this during Covid. I became obsessed with painting and from then on I haven’t stopped. I now do large scale acrylic and oil paintings on canvas.

Charlie and Adele

Charlie (gold) leapt out of his tank and landed a metre away on the carpet. I scooped him up and felt his tail move, he was alive. I now put a lid on my tank.

Record player

I bought this record player when I first moved into my Glebe home to give it some eclectic character. I unfortunately dropped something on it and broke the needle, so now it’s more of a decoration.

Freddy mercury poster

It’s Freddy, what more to say? I grew up listening to Queen so Freddy has always been an icon for me. Now I get to worship him every time I walk out the door.

Vintage shirt

I bought my vintage tee for a dress-up party at a vintage store, and now it’s part of my everyday attire. I once wore it to a date as a test – if he didn’t like my tee, he wasn’t the one for me.

Leather bound diary

I carry a diary around with me everywhere. It contains all my schedules, any sporadic ideas I have and any thoughts I need to get on to the page.

Vase

My cousin Jaime designed this by using an old vase and coating it with grout and then collaging it with coloured tiles.

I love decorating my house with art from loved ones.
