At home with busy netball star Julie Corletto

JULIE Corletto, the busy Australian netball star, takes her favourite things with her on the road.

FOR Julie Corletto, home is a lot more than bricks and mortar. Travelling throughout Australia and New Zealand for much of the year, the netball star says she takes home with her wherever possible.

That means photos, personal effects and even her dog Jack and cat Molly, who have relocated to Sydney with her for the 2015 netball season.

Who

Favourite thing My husband Daryl. He has always been my biggest supporter. He’s been there through the highs and lows. Jack is our golden retriever and we got him in 2010 when I had knee surgery. It was a tough time because I was told I may never play again and Jack was like my rehab puppy.

Inspiration I focus on making my home comfortable. My Sydney apartment is a bit mix ‘n’ match, but at our Melbourne home, we’ve followed the modern look

Home is

anywhere I am with my family and friends

“I’ve rented an apartment at Maroubra for the NSW Swifts season and I have furnished it with a bit of a ‘mix ’n’ match’ style as a few of the girls on the team were selling furniture,” the Melbourne sportswoman says.

“Having said that, it’s comfy and I guess I add my personality and sense of style through things like photos of family and friends and candles. Most importantly, my furbabies, Jack and Molly, have come up to stay in Sydney for the season and I try to spend as much time with my husband Daz as we can manage.”

The defence star is looking forward to one day putting down roots in her home town of Melbourne, where she and basketballer Daryl Corletto bought a home a year ago.

“I can’t wait to settle down,” Julie says. “I’m always looking for things I want for the house on Pinterest but we’re never home long enough to do anything. It’s a brand new home and we have it furnished in a modern style with lots of wood.

“I really want to put up lots of photos of our holidays we’ve been on and our wedding.

“For now, with both our contracts keeping us on the road, we never really know where we’ll be one month to the next. But we are also aware that our careers won’t last forever so we make the most of what we have for now.

“There’s plenty of time to slow down and put down roots later.”

Xavier Rudd CD

I have always loved his music and recently Daz and I went to see him in Sydney. This is his latest CD and it helps me chill out.

Bodyboard

Daz and I head down to Maroubra beach pretty much every day, and while he surfs, I bodyboard.

Wedding photo

We were married in 2009 and I love this photo of us out on St Kilda pier in Melbourne. It’s a beautiful memory of such a great day.

Body Ice

I pretty much have these on all the time, I can’t be without them. I basically fill them with ice and velcro them to my knees as part of my rehab.

Apple products

Because I’m away from home so often, I really rely on my Apple products to stay in touch with family and friends. We have message groups set up with my family and Daz’s family and I love seeing how my nephews and nieces are growing up.

Funkita sports gear

This brand is my favourite because it’s so bold and bright. When I put them on, it makes me want to train.

Blender

I use it to make a protein smoothie after training, a green smoothie in the morning and sometimes a berry smoothie at night for a treat.
