The right way to paint your home, according to a pro

Assuming your walls and ceilings are in basic good shape, tradies can help you paint your space the right way.

Picking the perfect paint colour can sometimes be overwhelming and feel impossible.

But tradies can help make the choice for you, assuming your walls and ceilings are in good shape.

Aris Paipetis of Lux Painting & Decorating said light and neutral tones can visually expand your space.

That means water-based latex flat paint for ceilings, flat or satin white finish for walls, and eggshell or semi-gloss for sills and doors. Don’t be afraid to overbuy, as most stores allow returns of anything unopened, save for custom-mixed colours.

Don’t buy cheap brushes; nothing is more annoying than trying to move quickly but having to stop constantly and pick bristles out of your paint.

“Accent colours like bright red and orange can give your home the “oomph” factor,” Mr Paipetis said. “But be careful how and where you use them, or they can be overwhelming.”

If you know your wall and ceiling measurements, professional painters can help you with the rest. There are social distancing measures in place but tradies are still able to lend a hand.

People can still post jobs online through the hipages platform and painters can continue to accept jobs.

“Professional painters don’t just paint and leave. They spend time checking out your home inside and out, spotting out any rot, decay or structural defects that need to be fixed before painting,” Mr Paipetis said. “We’re able to make any necessary repairs to ensure that the job is done right the first time.”
