NEIGHBOURS star Scott McGregor may be a fan favourite, but acting wasn’t always on the cards.
Having studied graphic design after high school, he worked as a designer for three years before joining a modelling agency. After landing several TV commercials, followed by a stint on a game show, Scott decided to try his luck at TV presenting before acting.
“I found myself getting small guest acting roles on shows like Underbelly, Carla Cametti PD and Winners & Losers,” he says. “I remember leaving Underbelly set on such a high, thinking ‘this is what I want to be doing’.”
Melbourne born and bred, Scott spent two years living in Los Angeles, but was thrilled to land a gig in his home town.
“I grew up in the northwest of Melbourne in Avondale Heights,” Scott says.
“I recently met (writer/actor) Rob Sitch
and he told me he also grew up there. It’s where the inspiration for The Castle came from, which happens to be one of my all time favourite films.”
“I’m told Shane Jacobson was also from Avondale Heights, so I’m in good company.”
Scott and his fiancee Bianka Voigt recently bought a Californian bungalow, with plenty of space to raise their seven-month-old daughter, Evie. He describes the home as “spacious and open with big, beautiful windows”, furnished with a mix of vintage finds and clean, modern timber pieces.
“We also have a lot of big green plants,” Scott says. “My fiancee spends way too much on pots. We absolutely love our house.
“Just last weekend we sat out the back on a blanket and enjoyed some food with Evie and Pudge. We love moments like this where we just get to enjoy each other.”
