First Dates presenter and cat lover Sam Mac has the purrfect place to relax

Home is the purrfect place to relax for busy TV presenter and cat lover, Sam Mac.

IT COULD be categorised as a bit of a relaxed morning for Sunrise’s new weather presenter Sam Mac.

Prior to our chat, he’s been out at Sydney’s Wet ‘n’ Wild water park for work, but he only went on a children’s ride.

Which is not half as exciting as his last visit for work when he rode the Skycoaster, the ride where you get strapped into a harness and raised 75m before a free-fall drop.

And nothing on his first day on the job where he bungee jumped while blindfolded.

“I think they were trying to break me in
my first week,” laughs Sam, who admits he’s scared of heights.

“I would never do this stuff if it wasn’t work-related.”

Sam lives in a two-storey terrace in Darlinghurst. When he’s home, he hangs out with his two cats, Coco and Catra.

“Coco is a white burmilla with one tooth,” he says. “She loves attention and loves new people.

“Catra is more of a social recluse, she’s has 5 per cent vision, she was born like that.”

Catra is from the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, where Sam is an ambassador.

Sam’s home is white, modern and simple, ensuring the terrace feels as open and airy as possible.

“I had the place renovated about
18 months ago,” he says. “I had new floorboards put down, and a new kitchen and bathroom put in.”

SAM’S FAVOURITE THINGS

Pig: The pig is a gift from my mum. Apparently as a child I was scared of pigs and used to run to my parents’ bedroom at night claiming there were pigs outside my window coming to get me. It’s also a homage to my hometown of Adelaide. Home to the world-renowned Rundle Mall pig statues.

Racing helmet: I wore this helmet in the Celebrity Grand Prix in Melbourne in 2014. I’ve since worn it to five dress-up parties. Daft Punk is my go-to dress-up option. The position I finished in the grand prix is irrelevant. I don’t want to talk about it.

Casio keyboard: I got this bad boy off eBay for $28. It featured on my radio show in a segment called The Casio Challenge, where guests would be challenged to play a song by any artist but themselves on it. It has been played by the likes of The Black Eyed Peas, Guy Sebastian and Thirsty Merc.

Sneaker Collection: I love sneakers. I try to keep them in pristine condition. I believe that we’re 36 per cent more confident when wearing impressive footwear. Okay, that statistic is not scientifically proven.

Coco: She is the Kim Kardashian of cats. And the subject of my most successful Instagram posts. She only has one tooth so she refuses to smile.

World Cup Trophy: I’m a huge soccer fan and amazingly I bought this “actual” World Cup trophy at Sydney’s Paddy’s markets for only $40.
