WHO: Fashion illustrator Sally Spratt.
WHERE: An Art Deco apartment in Rose Bay with her 11-month old retriever, Baloo.
FAVOURITE THING: The “S” light is so much fun. I saw the letter lights when they first came out and thought, “I want one of those”. It’s one of those items that sits on the table and makes a real statement. It’s very sweet.
INSPIRATION: I love clean, white lines. My work space is chaotic with lots of colour, so for my home everything has to be white with some occasional accents.
HOME IS: Warm and wlecoming. Everything is set up the way I want it to create a calm, happy, safe place.
WHEN illustrator Sally Spratt was looking for a new home to share with her dog Baloo there was only one thing on her mind — hitting the beach.
Having lived in inner-city Alexandria on a busy street front, Sally says she wanted to be close to the beach in time for summer.
A former resident of Bellevue Hill and Paddington, the idea of being able to go for morning walks by the water with Baloo prompted the move to Rose Bay.
“I wanted to be back by the beach — especially a dog beach,” she says.
Keeping a dog in an apartment might be frowned upon by some landlords but Sally moved into an Art Deco block of units that is home to several other pets.
‘They’re happy for me to have a dog here as long as he is quiet,” she says. “There are a few dogs in the block, but they are a lot smaller.”
Sally says she’s been enjoying the “summer, happy vibe” of her locale immensely.
“It might sound kooky but this place had such a good vibe as soon as I walked in,” she says. “I used to live on a main road and it was chaotic, so this is a nice, beautiful change.”
Sally, who works from home, and has collaborated with prestige brands such as Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown, La Mer and Coach, says being able to separate home and work is important.
“My office space is in another room, and when I go in there, I’m ready to work,” she says. “First things first though, my day starts with a walk with Baloo. If I’m not up at 6.30am, he’ll let me know and we then go for a 45-minute power walk.”
That is my go-to. I might even blend banana and Weet-Bix or berries with coconut and nuts.
