Actor Matt Little is perfectly at home in Sydney and away

THERE’S really no place like home for this seasoned traveller

• Home is: We’re so spoiled by this country and I don’t have a problem living in any place in Australia as long as it’s here.

ACTOR Matt Little says having travelled around the world, coming back to Australia is a charmed experience.

Matt, who plays VJ Patterson in Home And Away, alongside his Mosman flatmate Scott Lee (who plays his stepbrother Hunter King), says travelling has opened his eyes to the wonders of our own backyard.

“When I am overseas, I am always comparing, ‘this is beautiful, but Whitsundays is better, the people are nicer, the coffee is better’. You land in Sydney and the air is clean. These are things you take for granted.”

Clearly Matt feels the pull home and away, but has put down roots in Mosman.

AT HOME WITH DR LISA CHIMES

“I grew up in Artarmon, so I’m familiar with the lifestyle on the lower north shore, and then I lived in Melbourne for a while when I worked on Neighbours,” he says.

Matt had toyed with the idea of trying his luck in Los Angeles or London, before landing the Home And Away gig.

Living in a relatively modern apartment with lots of natural light by the beach is quite indulgent, but two guys, by their own admission, are not masters of interior design.

“For a while we just had a couch and then thought, people aren’t going to want to come over,” Matt says. “So we started adding things like a dart board, Nerf guns and an Xbox.”

The friends had worked together for about a year before deciding they would be a good fit as flat mates. The only downside to being so close to the beach is that he hesitates to leave his ’hood on the weekend and enjoy some of Sydney’s other famous beaches.

“I am so spoiled living close to the water and on the weekend,” he says.

Suitcase: I just came back from Central America and the Caribbean and before that I was in Germany, Italy and Belgium, and before that, Nepal. Next up I am thinking of going to Japan, I’ll take every chance I get to travel to somewhere different.

The WOD Life T-shirt: This is a crossfit workout shirt. I’m not into partying, I just train. Our schedules are pretty good and we have some free time during the week in the morning or afternoon to work out. There’s never been a day that I won’t make time for it and I’ll skip other things to get into the gym.

Yoobi stationary: When I was approached to become an ambassador, it was kind of a no-brainer. With everything you buy they give stationary to children in need.

Keyboard: I used to play a little bit more that I do now, but then I watched La La Land thought that I’ve got to extend my hobby list and get back into all the things that I gave up on.

Xbox: I only bought the Xbox to play Halo, nothing else. It’s not a waste of space though. I realised later that you can link it up to the TV and watch Netflix on it.

Home and Away scripts: I always have heaps of Home and Away scripts because we are working on three episodes any given time. I usually end up having a pile of scripts as high as I am and then we have to get rid of them.

Basketball: I have been playing since I was five years old. It was the only thing I was good at because I was a good head taller than everyone else, but then everyone caught up. I still enjoy playing it, but at six foot one, I am a midget by basketball standards.

Batman figurine: I am a Batman comic book reader, especially on Kindle. I read comics when I am on the train or waiting for something because you can dip in and out of it quickly.

Harry Potter book collection: The third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, is my favourite book. I still read it once or twice a year and overall, I have probably read it about 20 times. When I read it I feel like a 12 year old again.

Coffee: I have about six cups a day and it doesn’t bother me. I’m not fussy, I would have a long black or cappuccino and I’ll even drink the instant stuff. I went to America last year and had to drink that filtered crap. That’s my biggest qualm about travelling, Australia actually has the best coffee.
