Wads of cash, cocaine, ice, firearms and a boa constrictor were among items seized during police raids on the Sunshine Coast at the weekend.

Drugs, wads of cash, firearms and even a 2-3m long boa constrictor were among items seized following more than a dozen police raids on suspected bikie hangouts on the Sunshine Coast at the weekend.

Taskforce Maxima executed 14 search warrants on properties from the Sunshine Coast to Gympie with 11 people charged on 60 offences including the alleged president of the Rebels Sunshine Coast chapter for illegally possessing a boa constrictor.

Dubbed Operation Lilac, the raids, in conjunction with Australian Border Force, netted two pistols, a sawn off shotgun, quantities of dangerous drugs, including cocaine, ice, cannabis and steroids, and about $30,000 cash.

A 64-year-old man has been charged with ‘dealing with prohibited matters’ in relation to the exotic snake and is due to appear in the Nambour Magistrates Court on November 2.

Boa constrictors are native to South America and can grow to up to 4m in length.

Also arrested were a 26-year-old man from Little Mountain and a 35-year-old Curra man on multiple drug and weapon offences.

Detective Inspector Tim Leadbetter said Maxima detectives remained active in targeting gangs and their networks.

“We will continue taking a proactive, intelligence-led policing approach and conduct operations wherever OMCGS are in the state to make our communities safer,” Detective Inspector Leadbetter said.
