RYDE Garden is a breath of fresh air in Sydney’s growing northwest corridor where business is pouring in and rivalling Parramatta as the place to be, writes Catherine Nikas-Boulos.

NORTH RYDE is challenging Parramatta as the CBD district du jour outside of the city, with new businesses pouring into the northwest.
To complement the corporate presence in the area including Microsoft, Optus and 3M, residential developers have also moved in on the action.
Developer Country Garden has launched the second phase of its $550 million Ryde Garden development. More than 330 new apartments were listed for sale recently, with almost half already snapped up.
The residential mix includes one- bedroom apartments from $498,000; two bedders with views from $685,000 and three bedders from $950,000.
Ryde Garden was designed by acclaimed architects Bates Smart. Each apartment has its own balcony and ground floor apartments have private courtyards.
The communal areas include three rooftop terraces, a large tree-lined swimming pool, gym and barbecue area.
Construction on Ryde Garden is expected to begin in December, with an anticipated completion date of mid-2017.
Garden grows
Although Country Garden is not a familiar name locally, it is one China’s top property developers.
Country Garden’s marketing and sales manager, Sean Lin, says Ryde is already on its way to becoming a major corporate hot-spot, and adding residential offerings in the mix made absolute sense.
Having Macquarie University and Macquarie Shopping Centre nearby was another winning combination.
“We all believe that Ryde Garden will bring a number of benefits to the community, like the 2100sq m central park, the broad retail offering, cafes and childcare centres among other amenities,” he says.
The transformation of Ryde is well underway. Urban Activations Precinct (UAP), with guidance from the NSW government, will further help to beautify the area over the next five years and oversee new infrastructure.
“Under UAP, there will be better transportation and life facilities such as the footbridge and shopping centre,” says Sean.
Design wise
Material selection includes timber, concrete and steel used to create a layered facade, while glass and aluminium are the primary materials used on the streetside tower facades of the development.
Inside, each apartment has Smeg appliances and quartz stone benchtops in the kitchen and mirror splashbacks to increase the sense of space.
One-bedroom apartments have studies with openings that connect to kitchen space.
Colour schemes are either light, with an emphasis on white with timber and grey accents, or dark, with timber and charcoal accents.
Local knowledge
Ryde Garden is about eight minutes’ drive from both Chatswood and Macquarie University and Lane Cove National Park is also nearby.
A 2100sq m community park is to be constructed on the site.
The development is also on the doorstep of Ryde’s new train station, and for those taking the car to work, the secure underground car park is only a minute from the M2 freeway.
