AFL glamour couple Jimmy and Nadia Bartel are about to begin a new chapter on the home front - and theyÂre giving us a sneak peek.
The Geelong champ and his fashion blogger wife are preparing for the arrival of their first child, including starting to fit out a nursery in the stylish home they have built in the up-market Geelong suburb of Newtown.
Ms Bartel, who has 238,000 followers on Instagram and thousands more on other social media, said she had been checking out Danish-inspired furniture for their new bub hub.
“I’ve looked into that a little bit,” she said.
“We don’t know the sex of the baby so we’re going to keep the nursery quite neutral.”
After hanging up his footy boots for the season, and possibly his career, Bartel is set to spend more time at their stunning home overlooking the Barwon River.
“We built this home from scratch,” Bartel said proudly.
Each played to their strengths during the project, with Ms Bartel taking the lead on styling and the 2007 Brownlow medallist overseeing the building.
“When we built our house it was actually quite easy to come together because we pretty much agreed on most of the features,” Ms Bartel said.
They opted for a pared-back, simple approach, incorporating concrete, marble and stone, as well as wood and earthy tones for a Scandinavian vibe.
“I think our style tends to be quite minimal, nothing too hectic,” Ms Bartel said.
“The good thing too is that Nadia doesn’t have a girlie girl style and that works for me because as she said we like that concrete and stone style throughout the house,” Bartel added.
“She’s really good on the small details and styling.”
The pair have opened their home as part of premier property listings website realestate.com.au’s latest Australia Lives Here campaign in which stylist Jules Sebastain hosts a series of video tours through the homes and suburbs of celebrities.
The video series, launched today, provides a “fly on the wall” look inside the Bartels’ stylish digs.
While the kitchen and walk-in robes take pride of place for Ms Bartel, for her husband it’s all about the stunning outdoor zone with its infinity edge lap pool and fire pit.
“I love having the big deck and hanging around the pool,” he said.
“It has a fire pit and even an outdoor shower - it’s just lucky the neighbours can’t see into our backyard.”
Their new address is only 3km away from where Bartel grew up but it’s a little further for the Melbourne-born fashionista.
“We’ve always liked Newtown, it’s got a good vibe, full of cafes and so close to everything,” Ms Bartel said.
“Our house looks over the Barwon River and when I first met Jim we actually spent a lot of time down there.”
The Bartels’ home is the first to feature in realestate.com.au’s exclusive web series Australia Lives Here. The series takes a peek into the homes of some of Australia’s most well-known celebrities, sports stars, actors, chefs and musicians.Follow it here.
