A fashion influencer has shared her heartbreaking discovery while she and her new husband were trying to create a family.
Bridget Bahl, who made headlines in 2023 over her lavish New York wedding, took to Instagram to reveal to her followers that she has discovered she has breast cancer.
“A few weeks ago, I had shared with you guys that I would be starting another IVF retrieval. It would be my sixth retrieval. We just really want to have a baby,” the tearful fashion influencer said.
Two days into the shots, she had routine blood tests that came along with this procedure and told the doctor she found something in her breast. He said they needed to stop immediately, and she needed to go for imaging.
“I was completely convinced that it was fine, that it was just a cyst from the hormones. I really, truly did not feel worried about it. I felt great,” she said.
The 40-year-old had scans done and she was sat down by the doctor, who told her they had been doing this a long time and “didn’t like” what they saw.
“She encouraged me to stay there and do a biopsy. The next day she called me and confirmed I do have breast cancer. It has spread to a lymph node,” she said.
Bridget said she knew she was going to be OK, but she also knew there was a “really scary” road ahead and she “didn’t want to do it”.
“I believe through the grace of God, I can do it. The last few weeks have been nothing short of a nightmare and just so many appointments, trying to process and make plans,” she said.
Bridget said she knew her following was 90 per cent women, and it was too big of an opportunity not to speak about what was going on, so she urged women to do their self-exams.
“You have to do your self-exams, and if you feel something, you have to say something. You have to get it checked out — do not wait. If you don’t wait, you will have a better opportunity to treat it, get it and fight it,” she said.
Bridget said she would need chemotherapy and surgery and would likely have to have radiation. However, the type she has responds well to targeted treatment. She is also finishing up what will likely be her final IVF retrieval.
“I just want one more embryo,” she said.
Bridget’s husband, plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Chiodo, commented on her post saying; “Love you. We’re gonna be OK.”
In Australia, one in seven women and one in 556 men are diagnosed with breast cancer, with the illness accounting for 287 per cent of all new cancers in women.
The survival rate between 2016 and 2020 was placed at 92 per cent.
Bridget, creative director of the fashion brand The Bar, was slammed last year following her ceremony to Dr Chiodo in New York.
The Dallas-based woman wore an Oscar de la Renta dress from the spring/summer 2019 collection but had a train added.
Bridget’s reception was held in The Plaza’s Edwardian Room, with the 39-year-old posting to TikTok scenes from the party. Eagle eye fans noticed that the exit signs were covered in gold plates. The word “exit” was still on the signs.
Taking part in a viral TikTok trend, she posted: “I pay attention to things most people ignore (covered all the ugly red exit signs to save the wedding photos).”
A photographer, known as @madisonannestudio, stitched the video and expressed concern that the emergency exit signs were no longer obvious.
Madison pointed out that photos can be saved through editing and even shared an example of how she had edited the signs out as a “good photographer” and didn’t “break safety codes”.
“Literally speechless – and I promise you, exit signs are not a big deal,” Madison captioned her video.
Bridget has since removed the original video, but it was picked up by social media users who couldn’t decide if they were upset or in agreeance.
“Me as a wedding guest perishing in a fire because I couldn’t find the exit (but it’s okay because the venue is tastefully decorated),” one social media said.
Another defended the bride: “No but there’s still a sign. It says exit just not as boldly.”
“‘Breaking safety codes’ girl it’s not that deep you know where the door is you can see it,” another said.
