Neighbourhood Watch Victoria changes logo for first time in 35 years, encourages face masks

An iconic logo Victorians have seen in their streets for the past 35 years has had a design change in a bid to encourage people to wear face masks.

Andrews – Coronavirus lingers with lasting impacts

For the first time in more than 35 years Neighbourhood Watch Victoria has updated its iconic logo in a bid to persuade Victorians to wear face masks.

The crime prevention organisation revealed its new design on Twitter on Monday night, urging people to “mask up” as Victoria’s coronavirus crisis worsens.

And the well-recognised four-face logo will continue to have masks donned even after restrictions are lifted, Neighbourhood Watch Victoria CEO Bambi Gordon said.

“We have chosen to update our iconic four-face logo, for the first time, to be responsive to the government’s advice to wear masks,” she said.

“We hope that this update will encourage our members, followers and the broader community to watch out for each other.”

Face masks will be mandatory for residents living in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire from 11.59pm on Wednesday.

Police can issue a fine of $200 to anyone not wearing a mask.

Premier Daniel Andrews said people should be wearing the protective gear “whenever practical” and whenever they are outside their homes.

“It doesn‘t come at an enormous cost to the Victorian economy,” he said.

“It still allows us to go about our business, particularly those who can‘t work at home and for going shopping for the basics when you need them.”
