A Brisbane personal trainer who shares low calorie alternatives on TikTok has gone viral with her healthier take on a McDonald’s favourite.

Aldi Big Mac that's 'just like' Macca's

Welcome to You Got This, news.com.au’s weekly slice of fitness inspiration featuring tips and advice from real women who’ve experienced it all.

A Brisbane woman has become an overnight TikTok sensation after revealing tasty low-calorie Woolies, Coles and Aldi hacks.

Bec Hardgrave, from Brisbane, is a big believer in “I can have my cake and eat it too”.

She embarked on a lifestyle change back in 2019 after realising she was developing an unhealthy relationship with food.

But instead of completely giving up on the foods she loved, she followed Equalution, a nutritional program based on flexible eating.

“I also learned about the science-based method of tracking macronutrients,” Bec told news.com.au

“This discovery made me want to research and learn more and more about nutrition.”
As a result, she’s uncovered heaps of healthy food options in Aussie supermarket’s that most people aren’t aware of, and loves to share them to help others.

Her most recent is creating a healthier Big Mac alternative using items from Aldi – and she says it tastes “just like” the McDonald’s version.

Bec, who is now a qualified personal trainer, said overindulging in junk food was setting her down an unhealthy path, but by flexible eating, she could still enjoy the foods she craved.

“As for my training I found that a mixture of both HIIT (high intensity interval training) and weights (progressive overload with mainly compound exercises) helped me achieve my goals.”

The 25-year-old accounting student however had no idea documenting the low-calorie foods and treats she eats on TikTok would blow up.

“I started posting healthy recipes and the first one that went viral was of a no-carb, high-protein, gluten-free pizza. That just went crazy and ever since then I just started posting more about fitness and health,” Bec said.

After just five months of joining the popular platform she has clocked half a million ‘likes’ on all her posts with some detailing the “surprising” supermarket foods she eats while still maintaining a lean look.

Woman reveals low-calorie snack hacks

In one viral clip, the personal trainer reveals some of her go-to Woolies snacks which include roasted Fav-Va Beans, Noshu sugar free doughnuts, protein rocky road and high-protein cottage cheese.

“I find that Woolworths has a massive range of low calorie, yummy foods that are often overlooked because there are so many products,” Bec told news.com.au

“The best things about these snacks is that they are super easy to grab on the go, which is perfect for a busy lifestyle and they are also portion-sized so overindulging is easier to avoid.”

In her most recent clip, Bec shows viewers how to recreate the iconic Big Mac burger using ingredients from Aldi for only 420 calories while getting over 30 grams of protein.

“I found these Aldi brioche buns at and they taste literally just like Macca’s,” she explains in the video.

“Get 100 grams of lean beef, press it down with a plate to make it flat, add your smoked cheese.”

She then says to add burger sauce, raw onion, lettuce and pickles.

“This is 420 calories and over 30 grams of protein and I’m loving it.”

Reaction to the video, like many of her others, has been huge, with Bec telling news.com.au people comment to they her they were going to recreate it at home.

Bec said the overwhelming response to her clips has made her realise the lack of education surrounding nutrition.

“I think it’s ridiculous that people think they can’t have a slice of birthday cake because they’re on a restrictive diet. You should be able to enjoy your life and still have goals,” Bec said.

“I find there is a lot of misinformation in the fitness and health industry and it is very over complicated. I want to show people that they don’t have to eat super bland and boring food to lose weight.

“I also really enjoy helping people and if they are able to get a little closer to their weight loss goals by choosing yummy snacks that I discover, I think that is really cool.”
