VEGEMITE’S move to branch out as a dessert has been hammered by fans of the popular spread, and that isn’t the only hit the Australian icon has taken.
With the debacle that was iSnack 2.0 all but forgotten, Vegemite have now been accused of another epic marketing fail.
After telling consumers to “brace themselves”, the company has released a new recipe online for Vegemite Icy Poles.

And social media wasn’t kind.
“It’s not April 1st so why have you posted this? I refuse to believe it’s real” replied one user.
“Too far guys, too far,” another person replied.
“For gods sake no it goes on toast you don’t put it on a roast you don’t put it on pizza, you put it on toast and only toast,” one person told the brand, who cheekily asked: “can’t we SPREAD the love?” another Twitter user replied.

One user even threatened to call the police.

However some people were open to the idea.
But why didn’t you do this sooner? Why have you been holding out so long?” One user wrote.
Another user reached out to Coles to ask when they would be stocking the dessert. However it is not being made in bulk. Not yet anyway.
Either way Vegemite has taken the criticism with good humour.

According to the recipe the ice blocks take around 20 minutes to make before they can be put into the fridge for freezing.
The icy poles backlash wasn’t the only hit that Vegemite has taken.
Blend 17 which was marketed as a premium version of Vegemite has been heavily discounted by supermarkets. Woolworths have offered it at half of its $7 cost for a 150g jar.
While one report claims Coles is attempting to flog off the same product for $1.
According to Vegemite the ‘bolder, richer’ Blend 17 is only available for a limited time.
