The viral chocolate muffin that's the talk of the Olympics (and how to make it at home!)

If only muffin eating was an Olympic sport…

If you’ve been staying on top of Olympic village gossip, then you’ve probably heard of the chocolate muffin that’s taken the village by storm.

The muffin (made internet famous by Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen: AKA the muffin man) is available in the Olympic village food hall – perfect for athletes needing to carb load before their big event or for those wanting something sweet to celebrate afterwards.

Made by French company Coup de Pates, the moreish muffin is an extremely dense, moist chocolate muffin with large chocolate chunks and a gooey chocolate ganache centre.

Henriksen has made multiple videos of him eating the muffins, rating them a whopping “11/10” in one video.

So naturally, we’re desperate to try these muffins… BRB flying to Paris (in my dreams).

How to make THOSE Olympic chocolate muffins at home

On Christiansen’s video, a TikTok user commented: “At this point, the baker in the Olympic village needs to drop the recipe.”

This comment received over 90k likes, so it’s clear we’re not the only ones desperate to know how these decadent choccy muffins are made.

We may not be able to source the actual recipe but luckily for everyone (and Christiansen when he leaves the village), we’ve got a chocolate muffin recipe that rivals the Olympic Chocolate muffin.

Our chocolate muffin recipe uses cocoa powder and dark chocolate chips to ensure that intense chocolate flavour and evaporated milk which makes the muffins super moist à la Olympic village muffin.

While our original muffin recipe doesn’t have a gooey chocolate centre, you can easily adapt this recipe to include the indulgent chocolate lava.

Taste.com.au’s food director Amira Georgy said: “If you want to recreate the lava centre of the Olympics chocolate muffin, it’s easy to tweak this basic chocolate muffin recipe of ours.

“I suggest adding a generous cube of good-quality eating chocolate (not baking or compound chocolate) to the centre of the muffins before baking.”

Excuse us while we set the stopwatch and stick the oven on.
