AFTER months of tantalising images being posted to Instagram and Facebook, the Tella Balls Dessert Bar in Dulwich Hill is finally opening its doors today.

The dessert bar is run by Aki Daikos and Simon Kappatos — the creators of the Tella Ball shake.

The Foodcraft Espresso and Bakery shake creation was launched via social media last year, and created waves with people travelling from everywhere to try the creation — a Tella Ball doughnut atop a Nutella milkshake.

GELAT-DOUGH

It’s no surprise that their new dessert bar also has a surprising treat, which Kappatos thinks will set the tone for sweet treats in 2016.

The gelat-dough is a doughnut flavoured, doughnut shaped doughnut gelato, which is handcrafted and created by the best team we could find in Italy.

“We’re the first to do it in Australia,” Kappatos said.

“It’s totally different and we’ve got every flavour you can imagine.

“We really just wanted to bring something to Australia that will blow them away.”

The gelat-doughs are priced at $7 a piece, but are worth every cent.

A guaranteed sugar coma on every stick.

Daikos said that they had created the dessert bar for sweet-minded people, and treats like Tella Balls, waffles, crepes, gelato and milkshakes are all set to be menu favourites.

“We don’t believe in compromising freshness for taste,” he said.

The new dessert bar has four choices of shakes available. There’s the TBS (topped with a Nutella Tella Ball), the Salty Caramel, the strawberry or the vanilla option.

All of these are $10, which is the same price at Foodcraft Espresso and Bakery in Erskineville, but at the new store you can also trial the all-new Crazy Cronut Shakes.

For $12, there are also four options.

There’s the double chocolate shake (topped with a Kit Kat cronut), the peanut butter shake (topped with a Reese’s cronut), the salty caramel shake (topped with a caramel cronut and pretzels), and the TBCCS (topped with a Nutella cronut).

An extensive range of house-made gelatos and dairy-free sorbets are a perfect treat on a hot summer’s day.

“Our gelato is only made from the freshest ingredients and our desserts encompass and accompany the chocolatey goodness of Nutella, Kit Kat, Snickers, Oreo, Reese, Cadbury Flake, Maltesers and Kinder Bueno,” Daikos said.

A scoop starts at $4.50, and three scoops are $7.50. Take home packs are 500mL for $12.50 and 1L for $22.50.

HOUSE MADE WAFFLES

When it comes to waffles there’s options galore.

The Tella Bella ($16) is signature housemade Belgian waffles with topped with Nutella, fresh strawberries and vanilla bean gelato.

The Belgian Chocolat ($16) is waffles topped with fresh strawberries, melted Belgian milk chocolate and vanilla bean gelato.

The Ricotta and Blueberry waffles ($16) are divine, topped with ricotta and blueberries, drizzled with Canadian maple syrup, and finished with a dollop of mascarpone.

The $20 Waffle Burger is vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two housemade Belgian waffles, lashings of Nutella, fresh strawberries, and fresh banana.

And Choc Art ($16) is a winner — a combination of melted milk and white chocolate poured over Belgian Waffles.

PATISSERIES

You won’t be disappointed with any of the house-made treats. There’s cakes and mousses, and everything in-between, and Nutella plays a starring role in most of them.

For $13 you’ll score something delicious, served with vanilla bean gelato.

If these top five options don’t suit your tastes, there’s plenty more on the menu including crepes, pancakes, milkshakes and coffees.

“I grew up in Dulwich Hill, and went to school here, and we’ve both grown up in the inner west. I’m excited to be back in my hood.”
