BEFORE it has even hit the country’s screens Nigella Lawson’s newest cooking show has created quite a stir.
So much so that a good many viewers might be tuning in for the comedy value as much as the recipes.
The feeling is the new show, which comes with the obligatory book, is more simple than Simply Nigella.
Early episodes of Simply Nigellaaired on the BBC in the UK have seen the kitchen goddess’s halo slip after, in the first outing, she served up nothing more than avocado on toast as a recipe.
Granted, Nigella did add a little lime, chilli flakes, dill, ginger and radishes before mashing the whole lot and spreading it on bread, but that did not stop viewers venting on Twitter — seething that the recipe was too easy.
“I’m fully aware that avocado toast isn’t a recipe, but it’s part of the fabric of my life,” Lawson says on the show.
Tweets including: “@Nigella_Lawson spreads avocado on bread and calls it a recipe! What’s on the next episode, butter on toast?” were just the tip of the ‘Avocadogate’ iceberg.
Granted, some viewers did rejoice that the recipe was easy to follow.

More recently, Lawson drew viewer ire again with some claiming she paraded burnt lettuce topped with a fried egg as her take on a Caesar salad. It seems her attempts to roast the leafy greens went up in smoke.
