An iconic dish in the USA, the salty-sweet treat is traditionally made from Saltine crackers topped with a layer of caramel, a layer of chocolate and whatever toppings you desire – M&Ms and sprinkles are a popular choice.
Best-ever Christmas crack
Our first Christmas crack recipe went live back in 2019 (using Saladas instead of Saltines!) and has been growing in popularity ever since – with new versions of the recipe being born (from choc-mint Christmas crack to Caramilk Christmas crack and Eton mess Christmas crack in between).
Last year, our obsession became the nation’s obsession, and the crack trend went stratospheric across Australia… to be honest, there wasn’t a day in December that we weren’t making, eating and gifting Christmas crack.
We’ve been missing our fix so much that we decided it’s the perfect treat for any festive occasion – so Easter crack was hatched!
How to make Easter egg crack
Our Easter version of the Christmas treat features pretty much all the same ingredients as the OG version – Saladas for the base, a sticky and sweet caramel centre and a chocolate layer to finish.
To give it the Easter treatment, we used white chocolate as the top layer and coloured some of the white chocolate yellow – spooning it over the white chocolate to look like the white and yolk of an egg. To finish, we adorned the Easter crack with Mini Eggs and Coles Finest Hazelnut & Milk Chocolate Mini Easter Eggs (because you can never have too much chocolate at Easter).
The beauty about this Easter egg crack is that the toppings are totally customisable. Feel free to add your favourite Easter chocolates and colour the top layer of chocolate whatever colours scream Easter to you!
