WINNING POST RESTAURANT
While there’ll be heaps of stories out on the track, some of the best ones are right at your table.
Taking an innovative approach to food at Rosehill Gardens, executive chef Gerry Maher explains how he has set out to deliver menus throughout the venue that “align with a good Australian story”.
Nowhere is this more apparent than with the dishes served at the Winning Post Restaurant, such as the crispy-skinned Humpty Doo Barramundi, a family-owned and operated farm in the Northern Territory.
“We go to their farms,” Gerry says.
“We get to know the people and see where everything is sourced.”
When it comes to produce, Gerry’s crew has set up a small garden on site but otherwise most of the produce particularly the daintier elements, such as the watercress and micro-herbs, are from local independent suppliers.

WHAT SHAPED MOSMAN’S FOODIE SCENE
It’s essentially in line with the “farm to plate” ethos but with so many more dishes to deliver, Gerry has given it a grander term: “garden to gala”.

GRANDVIEW GRILL
Your nose will tell you there’s something good being cooked on the grill but dive into one of the beautiful burgers and your tastebuds will tell you it’s great.
New to Rosehill, the Grandview Grill is an extension of executive chef Gerry Maher’s “fine dining approach to food service”.
That means burgers made with exceptional ingredients such as their housemade wagyu and brisket mince beef patties or crumbed farm-fresh Humpty Doo barramundi as well as vegetarian and chicken options. And while some would say it’s on the inside that counts, the bespoke glazed sesame brioche buns by artisanal breadmaker, the Grumpy Baker, are exceptional all on their own.
To complement the burger selection on race day, Gerry will hand-cut and double cook 400kg of potatoes to make equally impressive Parmesan aioli-topped thick chips.
Everyone’s a winner here.

SALT & CHEESE
Whether it’s to finish off a meal or just some nibbles to share with friends, this year, rather than being limited to a prepacked box or plate with the standard meat, cheese and crackers, guests will have a wide range of gourmet options.
There’ll be international, Australian and local cheeses, including the gold medal-winning Triple Cream brie from boutique producers, Woombye, on the Sunshine Coast.
Chefs will also be on site shaving and slicing smoked hams and salmon, as well as the coveted Jamon Ibérico, an exquisite cured ham from Spain and Portugal.

EATS AT THE GARDENS
If you thought picking a horse was a tough task, just try to pick one place where everyone in your party can find something they want to eat.
Fortunately, a fleet of food trucks has been brought in to stave off any hunger wars between friends. Along Eats at the Garden, you’ll find foodie options ranging from Greek street food to Korean Fried Chicken and ever type of burger in between.
At Norma’s Burger Bar, a relatively new addition to the food truck scene, they’ve made a name for themselves with their famous Norma’s Smashed Patty and their special tomato-based Shak Sauce.
Go for the classic New York burger that includes American cheese, lettuce and tomato or a veggie version, No Meat 4 U.

THE WINX EFFECT COCKTAIL
It’ll be a bitter sweet at this year’s Golden Slipper as record-holding and much-loved racehorse Winx bids farewell to her legions of local fans with her last run at Rosehill.
To mark the moment, toast the champion with a cocktail, The Winx Effect, exclusive to the day. Made with Tanqueray, blue curacao, lemonade and apple juice, it’s one for the history books.

PIMM’S HORSE FLOAT
The calendar may say its autumn but the temperature outside still calls for a cool refreshing drink.
Luckily, the bright red and white horse float turned trackside bar is serving up ice-cold PIMM’s on tap in their signature-striped cups.

KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN
With honey and Korean BBQ sauces, there’s a new KFC in town.
Unlike its western counterpart, Korean fried chicken is twice-fried making it super crispy minus the grease, and then usually brushed with a sugary or spiced glaze such as the honey garlic tenderloins or sweet-n-spicy popcorn chicken.
