Fans of a cult Aussie breakfast item are divided by its recent return to supermarket shelves.
Tip Top Golden Crumpet Toast was last available in Australia in 2020 after it was brought back following a 10-year hiatus.
But eagle-eyed bloggers, including popular Melbourne foodie @nectoriouspapi, have spotted the “iconic” bakery item has once again returned to Coles and Woolworths.
“PSA Crumpet Toast is back at Woolworths, as well as Coles. Spongy soft and delicious,” he said.
The Crumpet Toast has the taste of a crumpet but the texture of a slice of toast.
“Each slice is crunchy on the outside, soft and spongy in the middle; it is scrumptious with butter and honey, or your choice of tasty toppings. Never a boring bite,” its product description states.
He wasn’t the only food-lover who has spotted the item was once again in stores, with popular Instagram user @foodiemummaren also posting about it.
“CRUMPET TOAST IS BACK!” she shared.
Social media users were divided over the news, with many sharing their delight as others expressed disappointment at its $7 price tag.
“Not tasty enough to pay that price. I prefer normal crumpets,” one bread lover revealed.
“Don’t think it was $7 last (time),” another commented.
As one social media user declared: “$7 is a joke.”
“Oooh I love crumpet toast!!” one undeterred fan shared.
“It’s back??? Yay,” agreed one.
Others took the opportunity to demanded other fan-favourite products also make a return to supermarket shelves.
“They need the scone toast back,” one social media user commented on the video.
Another said they believed the cinnamon version was much better than the Crumpet Toast and they wanted that to come back, while others were shocked at the price.
“OMG I’ve been waiting half my life for this to come back to New Zealand. We only have the cinnamon one,” another social media user commented.
