Agriculture Minister’s warning: Take farm ‘attack map’ down before ‘someone is killed’

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud has warned animal activists to take an ‘attack map’ of Australian farm locations offline ‘before someone is killed’.

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud is stepping up pressure on an animal activist group to take an “attack map” of farms off the internet “before someone is killed.”

Mr Littleproud issued the warning today after a piggery listed on the Aussie Farms’ digital map was broken into, saying he feared someone would be “seriously hurt or worse”.

“A piggery on the map has now been broken into by animal activists who have broadcast their illegal activities on Facebook,” the minister said.

“The safety of farming families and their children is at risk here.”

His warning also comes after a WA farmer fired a shotgun to warn activists filming his property earlier this month.

“I think the truth is the Aussie Farms organisation know full well their map is being used to plan attacks on farming family businesses and they’re fine with that,” Mr Littleproud said.

“They’ve lost sight of their cause and lost community support and must stop intimidating farming families.

“Aussie Farms should stop being so reckless and pull the farm map down before someone is killed.”

Aussie Farms is an activist group listed as a charity and aims to end “commercialised animal abuse” by “increasing industry transparency and educating the public about modern farming and slaughtering practices”.

The minister called on opposition leader Bill Shorten to condemn the activist group.

“Bill Shorten must call this out before the worst happens,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Labor voting against drought support is one thing but saying nothing about a map which displays the addresses of Australian farming families — often with incorrect information about the farm — is something else.”

Mr Shorten will today visit flood-affected communities in regional Queensland.

The minister also reissued a call for states to “beef-up” their trespass laws after an activist in Queensland was issued a $350 fine for her third offence.
