An iconic Brisbane pub that was set to close for good will reopen its doors next month after it was saved from calling last orders for the last time.

The Victory Hotel – lovingly known as The Vic – stands on the corner of Edward and Charlotte Streets in the Brisbane CBD. It is the oldest continually operating pub in the city, built in 1855 and originally named the Prince of Wales.

It was set to close this Sunday - and will still do so - but a new operator has come forward to take over the pub from March.

A spokesman for Precision Group - which has owned the pub since 2005 - said: “We are pleased to announce the Victory Hotel will reopen later in March with an exciting new operator.

“The iconic Victory Hotel will start yet another new chapter in the hotel’s long history within the Brisbane CBD’s entertainment precinct.”

Precision Group’s 20-year lease of the building with Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group (ALH) is coming to an end.

“We are proud to have been the custodians of the Victory Hotel for the last two decades and we are sad to be saying goodbye to this iconic venue,” an ALH spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.

“We would like to thank everybody that has played some part in the operation of the Vic since 1993.

“A lot has changed in this time, and we know a lot of memories have been made too.”
