5 best bottomless brunches in Sydney | delicious review

There is more to a bottomless brunch than free-flowing drinks as restaurants across Sydney up their food game to make the meal between breakfast and lunch the best of the day.

Australia's best restaurants revealed

Befitting bargain hunters as much as well-heeled revellers, the bottomless brunch takes the most important meal of the day to the brink of glorious gluttony, and adds booze.

What’s not to love about the uniquely Australian pastime of eating the main meal of the day after breakfast and before lunch, turning it into an all-you-can-eat affair, and pouring endless quantities of mimosas, bubbles and rosé? Nothing.

“Bottomless brunch” has never been an institution that promised particularly inspired food. For some, the phrase inspires fear rather than an appetite.

But recent renditions of the offering prove that there can be more to a bottomless brunch than free-flowing drinks; food merely a means to soak it up.

Our top picks also have great culinary offerings. Think Mexican-inspired tacos with margaritas, scallops with bubbles, or shared plates of dry-aged steak with shoestring fries.

The number of eateries doing bottomless brunches now is great, and some are even good.

Many have a two-hour sitting time, to put some boundaries around our indulgence, as well as a set price and set menu.

Bookings are generally compulsory, presumably to stymy entire bucks’ and hens’ nights turning up the day after to keep the party going.

Bottomless brunches now are a more considered affair, distinguishable from their happy-hour siblings and a far cry from their blush-worthy, all-you-can-eat buffet cousins.

Rocker, Bondi

This all-day Bondi cafe, restaurant and bar from Three Blue Ducks co-founder Darren Robertson does a share-style, mod-Australian menu for its bottomless brunch.

Food spans butternut pumpkin hummus with smoked chilli oil and spice dukkah, dry-aged sirloin with horseradish, a shaved fennel, celery and herb salad and shoestring fries with malt vinegar.

Drink all the mimosas, sparkling, red, white and rosé you fancy for over two hours for $99 between Thursday and Sunday.

Rocker is a chic destination at the best of times, sitting on the hill in North Bondi and off the main drag, and the endless mimosas only add to its sparkle just off Australia’s most famous beach.

Spice-dusted corn chips sidle up to chipotle mayo chicken wings and guacamole that’s creamy and balanced by welcome hits of lime of heat.

Kipfler potatoes are nutty in their fried, bravas-style state, tuna ceviche is done with a delicate avocado mousse, and there’s a selection of tacos and homemade churros with dulce de leche and chocolate dipping sauce for dessert.

Spicy and classic Patron margaritas, beer, wine, sparkling and rosé are bottomless for two hours every Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 11am and 5.30pm.

From midday until 2pm between Friday and Sunday this Cronulla hotspot offers two lunch menus, both excellent value at $69 and $89, with the option to go bottomless with free-flowing bubbles for an extra $30.

Yellowfin tuna sashimi, flathead tacos, truffle polenta chips with truffle mayo, lamb rump with chimichurri and crushed fried potatoes with smoked green tomato mayo; the oh-so-pretty and shareable dishes arrive one after the other, as do the glasses of bubbles.

There’s another Henry’s outpost in Neutral Bay.

Bright and colourful food and two hours of bottomless French rosé, prosecco, selected beer plus a welcome cocktail, SoCal’s “Fiesta” lunch is great value at $89.

The banquet is pre-set, but is a generous feast of guacamole with pepitas and corn chips, sweet corn with guajillo crema, kingfish ceviche with coconut and taro chips for dipping, plus a do-it-yourself platter of taco essentials — there’s chicken or pork carnitas, green tomato salsa, pickled things and herbs.

And there’s shoestring fries with jalapeño mayo for good measure. Add churros with warm dulce de leche for $3 a person extra.

Luke’s Kitchen at Kimptom Margot, CBD

Restaurant heavyweight Luke Mangan brings his name and quality menu into the old-world elegance of the Kimptom Margot hotel lobby.

The chef has curated a five-course menu with free-flowing rosé and sparkling for $95.

There’s the likes of Tasmanian salmon sashimi with wasabi, apple and fried ginger, a prawn bisque with pumpkin ravioli and pickled choko, an onion tart with truffle dressing, roast spatchcock with slow-roasted tomatoes and a coconut sago pudding with poached pineapple in this sophisticated, elaborated menu.

There’s a certain convenience to having the hotel there, making a night out in the city followed by a bottomless lunch – or vice versa – seem like one of the best ideas in the city.
