HE was named one of the most stylish athletes in the world by GQ, is dating a model, and is a global ambassador for H&M.
Czech tennis player Tomas Berdych knows his style on — and off — the court.
The world No. 7, who is in Melbourne ahead of his Australian Open campaign, is dating model Czech Ester Satorova.
Berdych credits Satorova with helping him refine his personal style.
“She’s coming from that (fashion) world, so ... she has a very good opinion,” Berdych said.
“We are quite good with it that we share both opinions.
“It’s just about the piece, let’s say if you’re not sure ... not that she would come and say wear this and this.
“I think I have quite good taste of what to wear,” Berdych said.
“Most of the time I like to pick it (an outfit) myself and consult with her on what she likes and what she doesn’t like.”
Berdych was named one of the most stylish athletes in the world by GQ in 2013.
The global H&M ambassador worked has closely with the Swedish chain’s design team on the five-piece Australian Open collection, launching in-store tomorrow, and wears custom H&M clothing during matches.
The 29-year-old is as comfortable in front of the camera as he is on the court, styling himself in a V-neck tee, ripped jeans and gold Nike sneakers at a photo shoot today.
“It’s just fun to do something different,” Berdych said.
“It’s not an easy day (on shoots). You spend the whole day ... doing this,” he added, emphasising his wide smile.
“So far I think I’ve had a very serious face. My friends tell me, why don’t you smile more?
“I’m just trying to be myself. Even with fashion, it’s some other thing that can help you a little bit more, expressing yourself even more.
“I’m not the person to judge myself.”
Last year Berdych reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open. This year he wants to take it further.
“It’s been a solid week and now the preparation is still on,” he said.
“I’m training hard at Melbourne Park and preparing myself and hopefully starting on Monday or Tuesday.”
H&M’s limited edition line of Australian Open-inspired activewear is in store tomorrow.
The five-piece collection includes polo shirts, striped tees and tailored shorts.
“I’ve been involved in the (design) process quite heavily,” Berdych said.
Berdych will officially launch the collection at H&M in Melbourne from 10am to midday tomorrow (January 17). The store is located at the GPO complex on Elizabeth St.
