Celebrities embrace questionable exposed G-string trend

Multiple celebrities have rocked a questionable throwback trend to ring in 2023, proving the “whale tail” could be here to stay.

Stars hit red carpet in wild MTV VMA outfits

Good news for Sisqó, bad news for basically everyone else: The exposed thong’s already wedging itself into the new year.

Multiple celebrities rocked the questionable throwback trend to ring in 2023 over the weekend, Page Six reports, including Miley Cyrus, who took to the stage for her “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party” wearing a racy Gucci little black dress with open sides that framed her matching logo G-string.

Meanwhile Hailey Bieber celebrated December 31 in Aspen clad in a Mugler dress with cutouts that lent the look of a “whale tail”.

But Dua Lipa went for perhaps the most daring look of all with her crystal mesh Ludovic de Saint Sernin frock, which plunged so low in the back that her bottom – and white thong – played peekaboo.

Of course, these three stars are no strangers to the head-scratching Y2K style. Bieber attended the 2019 Met Gala with her crystal-encrusted G-string hanging out for all to see, while Lipa made headlines when she hoisted her G-string straps above the back of her low-cut Mônot gown in 2021.

Cyrus, meanwhile, is just as content to pose in a G-string without the convention of clothes over the top, appearing in a Gucci campaign as well as posting behind-the-scenes snaps from the VMAs.

Considering a number of other major names have also pushed the polarising look recently – think Julia Fox all dolled up in Versace latex, Megan Thee Stallion’s white-hot Hanifa two-piece in Tokyo or Teyena Taylor’s edgy ensemble at the Billboard Music Awards – it’s clear the “whale tail” is still trending.

Wedgie haters, consider yourselves warned.
