MELBOURNE artist Phil Ferguson has built a huge following around his crocheted food hats — but there’s a heartfelt message behind the kooky exterior.

Amieleigh Cooper, 18, has several intellectual disabilities, however she has always had a fascination with police and dreamt of becoming a policewoman. Over the past year, Broadmeadows Police Station has been facilitating visits with Amieleigh, chatting with her about what they do, giving her tours of the station and even presenting her with her own uniform.
