Minister for Defence Industry the Honourable Melissa Price MP speaks at the launch of the Defence Industry Pathway Program in CIVMEC at Henderson shipyard in Western Australia. *** Local Caption *** The Government is boosting Australia’s future maritime defence workforce, in partnership with Western Australia’s South Metropolitan Technical and Further Educational Institute (TAFE) and Western Australia’s maritime industry.  The Defence Industry Pathways Programme is an initiative of the Australian Government supported by South Metropolitan TAFE, and valued at $9 million, is designed to build a pipeline of talent that is defence industry ready to be part of Australia’s booming ship building industry.  As part of this, South Metropolitan TAFE has established a 12-month defence industry traineeship program to meet this demand. The Defence Industry Pathways Program will provide school leavers with access to a range of career pathways with WA’s maritime industry and an understanding of the culture and norms of the defence industry, prior to deciding which path they take entering its workforce.  The launch of a defence industry traineeships program at CIVMEC, Henderson shipyard in Western Australia was represented by the Minister for Defence Industry the Honourable Melissa Price MP, Head of Maritime Systems, Rear Admiral Wendy Malcolm CSM RAN, and the Defence Industry Pathways Program Lead, Captain Angela Bond RAN.

Varley wins $41m defence contract
