Ibrahim house raids: Bags of white powder everywhere

When police raided John Ibrahim’s house in 2017, they spent 12 hours turning his Eastern Suburbs mansion upside down looking for incriminating evidence.

The Kings Cross identity wasn’t charged, but police found several surprises in his house, like numerous safes, bags of white powder and that his house was a communal living arrangement.

It was the climax of an 18 month police investigation that led to about 20 arrests and the simultaneous raids of the homes belonging to John’s siblings, Michael, Fadi and Jazz Dior. Police recorded each of the raids, which were tendered in multiple court cases.

The videos shed unprecedented insight on one of Sydney’s most fascinating families.

The searches uncovered a hidden pinhole camera, a confession of a drug addiction and a questionable interior design choice in the form of a very large tap in the shape of a dolphin.

Little bags of white powder. Police found them everywhere during their search of John Ibrahim’s house.

There was one in a House Beautiful magazine on a bookshelf, another was on a retaining wall near the pool. There was even one on the grass in John’s neighbour’s backyard.

So who did the bags of white powder belong to?

According to the videos that were tendered in court as evidence, upon each discovery, John Ibrahim and his housemates were brought to the scene of the discovery and filmed giving roughly the same answer: “No comment.”

The first bag was discovered just before 12.56pm by an officer searching the bookshelf on the stairs running upstairs to the master bedroom.

Still holding a copy of House Beautiful magazine, the tendered video showed the officer telling the camera: “I’ve just been searching through the bookcase here … and as I pulled out the House Beautiful magazine and gave it a flick. This plastic resealable bag containing white powder fell out.

“That’ll, obviously, be seized as an exhibit,” he continued.

Shortly after, the video showed police with Ibrahim at the scene of the discovery.

One officer warned that anything he said could be used as evidence against him and then asked if there was anything he could tell the officers about the bag of white powder.

Ibrahim said “No” and the video was terminated.

At 1.44pm, the officers fired up the video camera again after another officer found a similar bag of white powder on an outside retaining wall near Ibrahim’s pool.

Again, the video showed Ibrahim was brought to the scene and again said “no comment” when asked about the bag of powder.

The neighbour consented to the police coming into their yard so the officers could seize the two bags.

What did Ibrahim have to say about the bags when questioned by police?

“No comment”. And no charges ever followed.
