When police raided John Ibrahim’s house in 2017, they spent 10 hours turning his Eastern Suburbs home upside down looking for incriminating evidence.
The Kings Cross identity wasn’t charged, but police found several surprises in his house, like numerous safes, bags of white powder and that his house was a communal living arrangement.
It was the climax of an 18 month police investigation that led to about 20 arrests and the simultaneous raids of the homes belonging to John’s siblings, Michael, Fadi and Jazz Dior. Police recorded each of the raids, which were tendered in multiple court cases.
The videos shed unprecedented insight on one of Sydney’s most fascinating families.
The searches uncovered a hidden pinhole camera, a confession of a drug addiction and a questionable interior design choice in the form of a very large tap in the shape of a dolphin.
It’s not every day when a mother has to explain to the police that her son used those scales in her kitchen to make sure his cocaine dealer wasn’t ripping him off.
But that happened in the South Wentworthville home of Jazz Dior, sister of Ibrahim brothers John, Sam, Fadi and Michael.
Ms Dior was known as Maha Sayour before she legally changed her name.
She narrowly avoided jail in 2017 after a judge was convinced to sentence her to an 18-month intensive corrections order, which she served in the community, after pleading guilty to a gun supply operation involving her brother Sam.
The world was first invited into Ms Dior’s home when police charged her after finding $2.86 million cash inside the ceiling in 2009. She was acquitted of all charges.
A memento of that incident – in the form of a 2010 article from The Sunday Telegraph headlined ‘Cold hard cash linked to Ibrahim’ – is still stuck on the wall of one of her children’s bedrooms.
On another bedroom wall was a giant poster from the legendary Mafia movie, The Godfather.
Almost 10 years later and police searched the house again with the resulting video tendered in court.
On August 8, 2017, the police were back as part of the co-ordinated raids stemming from the Australian Federal Police investigation known as Operation Veyda.
The police camera entered the house before dawn. Among the first shots was her son Hassan “Sam” Sayour smoking a cigarette while sitting on the couch with his family.

And at one point during the raid, the officers wanted to know why there was a set of scales, plastic baggies and other unusual items — like white powder on a spoon — in the kitchen.
Ms Dior explained to the officers they belonged to her son Sam Sayour, according to the video.
She then revealed another piece of information about her son on the video: “He’s a user.”
Ms Dior explained to the officers that her son used the scales to measure cocaine to make sure the dealer had not ripped him off.
Police asked Sayour how much cocaine he used.
Sayour laughed and responded with a sheepish smile to the police video: “A lot.”
Sayour was not charged with any drug offences.
However, in 2018 he was charged with recklessly risking more than $1 million as the instrument of crime, possessing suspected proceeds of crime worth less than $100,000 and aiding, abetting or procuring money or property suspected of being the proceeds of crime worth more than $100,000.
He is set to fight the charges, which are listed to be heard in the Downing Centre District Court on May 21.
After the question and answer session in Ms Dior’s kitchen, police then went to a bedroom upstairs where they had found a safe containing one small pile of cash and one large stack of cash.
Sayour explained his girlfriend was Aysha Mehajer, sister of former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer.
According to the video, Sayour explained to the police he was going to use the small pile of about $6000 to buy a wedding ring for Ms Mehajer. The bigger pile of about $25,000 to buy a trailer for his work, Sayour told the police in the video.
Sayour and Aysha were married in November 2017. A pre-wedding party was disturbed by gunmen who stormed the Merrylands backyard and shot longtime Ibrahim bodyguard Semi “Tongan Sam” Ngata.
Police estimated the large pile contained up to $25,000 cash while the smaller one had up to $6000, the video showed.
The video also showed resealable bags of white powder and vials of liquid found in locations ranging from bedside table drawers to the boot of a car on the driveway.
The house was in a state of redevelopment and included a spa featuring a large tap in the shape of a dolphin that was full of work equipment.
In the backyard of the property, the video showed a rudimentary dog enclosure had been built while a motorbike with number plates “RAAHH” was parked in the driveway.
