EACH person's taste in movies is an ever-evolving thing.

All kinds of factors steer us towards certain genres at certain times of our lives.

Whether there is a need to be amused or saddened, excited or enlightened, distracted or involved, there is always another movie out there just waiting to be discovered, and ready to deliver.

However, there is one lasting influence that informs every choice we will ever make as viewers: the movies we watched when we were young.

Below you will find a collection of 50 movies everyone should see before they grow up.

While the list is by no means definitive, these are the bedrock titles that can provide a sturdy foundation for a lifetime of movie appreciation.

Of course, the many classic animation works of Disney and Pixar are very much to the fore, as are definitive screen adaptations of the books that every generation reads as a rite of passage.

But there are also some 'wildcard' selections that some of us may have missed in our younger days, or that the kids of today may not be aware of.

Above all else, the criteria applied here is all about fun, imagination, connection and escape.

As much as this is a guide for those with still so much to look at, it is also a map towards what to look for ...
