Everton and Socceroos legend Tim Cahill explains why David Moyes will succeed at Manchester United

THERE'S so much scrutiny on David Moyes's ability, but I know he will prove everyone wrong, writes Tim Cahill.

THERE'S been so much focus on Manchester United's struggles this season, but a manager should be judged over two campaigns - and after eight years playing under David Moyes, I know he's got all the attributes to prove everyone wrong.

Everyone is talking about it because at a team like United, this season's results haven't been acceptable because of what Sir Alex Ferguson created over his tenure. It feels like there's an assessment of Moyes's credentials after each game at the moment - but he's definitely someone who can take it on the chin.

Any manager going to a new club is going to take time to adapt - notwithstanding injuries to a player like Robin van Persie - but the club has identified his qualities, they know what he's achieved and can see the bigger picture.

What makes Moyes such a good manager? He has a wonderful ability to get the best out of players. Look at the courage of playing Adnan Januzaj, an 18-year-old, when the pressure is on. He's found another level in England striker Danny Welbeck, as well.

Look at my scenario: I'm no world beater but he got the best out of me. Staying back and doing crossing sessions with him, working on my movements, being in the video room going over players with me, analysing teams, having the sheets for the players I'm playing against.

He never let me rest on my laurels. Despite our personal relationship, he would always tell me if I was out of form or if I needed a kick up the backside. Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, those at the club: they can see those attributes. They signed him to a long-term contract, because he epitomises what they stand for. He's honest, loyal and he gives everything.

And he considers your personal and family life too - whether it's pulling you into the office, making sure everyone's fine - my kids or my parents. There was always time for a phone call or a coffee. Sure, there were the odd arguments too, but they made us stronger, because they were constructive, particular in terms of playing, to keep me on track.

That sort of man management will see things turn around at Old Trafford. He is strong on and off the park. Some of the decisions you make in life - as a footballer, or as a father, for example - he makes you see the reality of what's important.

Look at the way he's dealt with Wayne Rooney. It is unbelievable how he's playing at the moment.

The main thing he does is focuses on the players' well-being and keeping that changing room really together and fighting for the same purpose.

With this current Manchester United squad it's hard because there are a lot of youngsters amongst older players who have been together for a long time, so January could be a telling time to see which fresh players are coming in.

January is important, and a few big signings will lift the fans.

News_Rich_Media: Chelsea have moved into top spot on the Premier League table with a two-nil win over Hull, while Manchester United have ended their three-game losing streak, easing the pressure on David Moyes.

The problem the club is going to have is that any player they target is going to go for double the price they should be. He's coming into a market where the most he spent was 18 million pounds at Everton and even at United he'll want to protect the club, and the wellbeing of the fans. But right now, it might be the time to make that jump where he has to pay the silly money for a player.

The next two signings will be telling for their season - but he's a strong character. If the right players aren't available for him, he won't sign them.

There's been plenty of stories about the amount of players Manchester United missed out on in the European summer, but for those they're targeting in January, all I can say is: I trust him, because I worked under him for eight years.

He'll believe in you.

I'll never forget the time he and his staff invested in me. He always told me to be the best I can be - I remember at a certain point he started playing me as a striker and he turned to me and said: "I'm not going to buy a striker". I thought: what! He said: "you're going to be the striker". And I played 10-15 games, scored loads of goals and he left me there.

People need to just look at the bigger picture. People might sometimes think I'm biased - but look at what was created in eight years at Everton. We did some pretty amazing things at that club.

I back him to do the same at his new Theatre of Dreams.

Football fans, you can catch Tim Cahill at Westfield Parramatta at Rebel Sport on behalf of Warrior this Monday January 20. Catch him from 1-2pm for an autograph; the last time football fans can catch Tim before he returns overseas.
