VETERAN actress Kim Novak surprised many with a rare public appearance at yesterday’s Oscars. But was she unfairly singled out among Hollywood’s Botox-happy stars?

The 81-year-old Vertigo star’s rather ‘youthful’ appearance got everyone talking. A prolific film star in the 1950s and ‘60s, Novak hasn’t acted on film since 1991, so has shunned the limelight for much of the past 25 years.

Her first appearance in front of a large audience for some time certainly seemed to raise a few eyebrows:

Novak appeared a lot younger than her 81 years at the Oscars.

Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon Brent Moelleken today told website HollywoodLife.com which procedures he thought the actress had done.

“Ms Novak has apparently had silicone injections or over-aggressive fat injections to her face. Either can be disastrous and irreversible.

Most Hollywood ladies who ‘age gracefully’ actually do so with subtle plastic surgery that keeps them looking younger and ‘refreshed’,” he said.

“If they try too hard to look much younger than their age, they will have a bad result.”

But to be fair, Novak wasn’t the only celebrity sporting a decidedly ‘refreshed’ look at yesterday’s ceremony:
